Thought exercise: One VOY episode with an unlimited budget?

I think they all died pretty quickly because if anyone had survived for long, the bodies of the crew wouldn't have been left where they fell. Do you think the inertial dampners were offline? Do they work if a spaceship crashes in to a planet or are they just for when the spaceship is in space?

Tom states that they're offline in the episode. :p Though, that makes it mildly surprising to me that everyone (we see) is as intact as they are.

Chakotay also states that everyone was killed on impact, though how he could be 100% certain is unclear.

What, the Cabbage Patch Notpunk look wasn't good enough? :shifty::whistle::devil:
It was ... shocking. Especially that the first VOY ep I had ever seen was ONE, which already had Seven in it. (I had no idea who Kes was.) So when I finally managed to catch CARETAKER, I felt that the Kazon were a step back.
Later I warmed up to the whole of VOY and it wasn't a problem for me any more. I accepted them for what they were. After all, who knows what Delta fashion looks like?

But with unlimited CGI and especially with unlimited budget - why not apply a few changes that would probably please everyone visually :luvlove: (or would, at least, NOT take away from anyone's enjoyment of the Kazon and co)?

"Ashes to Ashes." Get more guest actors to play Lindsay Ballard's closest friends on Voyager. It's enough of a stretch that she was apparently so close with Harry, who never mentioned her before, but she interacts with no one outside the senior staff, even in her nightmare! You'd think such an outgoing gal would have a few friends outside the senior staff that barely thinks about her.

"Before and After," sake deal. Get some more guest actors, so Linnis has a husband who isn't her dad's best friend. And a more fitting husband for Kes, and a more believable security chief than Nerlix.

Also: actual flashbacks.

I liked that Neelix joined Starfleet in "Before and After" - as it was something that he wanted it was nice to see a timeline where it happened. I assume Tuvok let Neelix join the security department after Tuvok became first officer and wouldn't have to work closely with Neelix.

"The Fight" - re-write it so it just works better - Chakotay's story about his grandad is interesting and the chaotic space aliens are a good idea, I think there's a good episode in here somewhere.

Flashback. Except a three parter showing how Tuvok was an angry Vulcan throughout his career. Snide Vulcan serving under Picard on the Stargazer. Being a snobby Vulcan with XO Sisko on the Saratoga. So many cameos and ships!

Use the unlimited budget to have the characters from Learning Curve ever show up again.

Or Equinox. That’s my real pick. Make the crew compliment left alive larger. Show real flashbacks of the horrific experiences which drove them to make their choices. A mini arc or half season show with in a show of the story of the Equinox. That would be worth the budget.

Endgame and a massive homecoming and coda to rival Return of the King.
Have Admiral Janeway come back sooner, so Joe Carey doesn't die.

Keep Mezoti on the ship so Naomi has a friend her own age for more than about 2 episodes.

And spare some time to tell us what happened to the Borg baby. There are plenty of fanfics in which someone on the crew adopts her.

If I could cheat I'd say some kind of feature length fusion of the Kazon arc and the coup elements of "Worst Case Scenario." I think this would have been a cool story in real Voyager Season 1, albeit without Chakotay leading it. It worked well on BSG. Chakotay and Janeway together doing "Die Hard" and running around the ship together trying to stop Seska and her cohorts trying to deliver the Voyager to the Kazon.

Guilty pleasure: any episode where Tim Russ as Tuvok had to engage in hand-to-hand combat. Get that man on a rigorous training regimen leading up to the day(s) of shooting and contract the best fight choreographers plus stuntmen in the business. I want to see that formidable Vulcan strength along with his impressive breadth of martial arts training.
