More than making CADET Kirk First Officer of Pike's Enterprise?
More than making LIEUTENANT Picard Captain of the Stargazer?

I mean, when they go bad, they go bad.
    Admiral Pressman.
    Admiral Leyton.
    Admiral Kennerlly
    Admiral Jamison
    Admiral Cartwright
    Commodore Decker
Admiral Nechayev ordered genocide on the Borg.
Admiral Ross was more gray for sure. But definitely not all good.

Technically, Kirk was a lieutenant, like Uhura.

What's your point then? That promoting Sylvia Tilly wasn't a ridiculous decision because the two greatest Starfleet captains had significant promotions as well? I'm fine without the CAPITAL LETTERS as well thanks.

Also Kirk and Picard demonstrated some serious competency in terms of starship command before their promotions I'm sure you'd agree?

Did any aspect of Ensign Tilly scream out 'second in command of a starship' then?

Although I watch it, because I watch all Trek, I am not a big fan of Disco. The writing strikes me as being extraordinarily sloppy, both in terms of plot holes and characterization; the action scenes are melodramatic to the point of absurdity; and Michael Burnham doesn't much interest me.

But ... I enjoyed the season-long story of The Burn, a mystery that (for me) unraveled at the proper speed and was always interesting. And I adore any scene with Saru, and in particular his interaction with Su'Kal. That was great stuff. I also like the 32nd century, it's an interesting place, and I'd like to spend more time with that era's Starfleet.

So, I will keep paying CBS for All Access and watch Season 4. Although I worry that I will no longer have Saru to keep me company.

Not sure why, but I jumped up and yelled Star Trek! when it was over. I think they wanted me to do that? Seems like that was the purpose of Season 3? Probably.

I think they missed an opportunity here. Michael's last words to Osyrra should have been:

"How do you like them apples?" :guffaw:

Yes, he tends to push back and get creative.

Ferris seems to have some authority to make Kirk abandon the search and invokes the regulation that allows him to do so.
Fox actually does have command authority
"FOX: I have my orders, Captain, and now you have yours. You will proceed on course. Achieve orbit status and just leave the rest to me. You're well aware that my mission gives me the power of command. I now exercise it. You will proceed on course. That's a direct order."
So it's possible that Ferris did too.
    As for Baris
"LURRY: Captain Kirk, this is Nilz Baris. He's out from Earth to take charge of the development project on Sherman's Planet.
KIRK: And that gives you the authority to put an entire quadrant on defence alert?
DARVIN: Mister Baris is the Federation Undersecretary in Charge of Agricultural Affairs in this quadrant.
SPOCK; That gives him the authority."

Hedford was mostly an irritant ( being ill she get's a pass) and upon review Kirk doesn't disobey any orders and none are given.

Seems to be gray area though, Decker is the senior officer and has a legitimate claim to command. Kirk as the current CO does too, but isn't on the ship. So I think it qualifies as disobeying a superior officer.

I guess I still don't get how some fans think The upcoming "Section 31" series is not a lock, and not moving forward.

We have two episodes in this season of Discovery that were there only to set up the ability of Michelle Yeoh's character to be a part of the Section 31 series they've been developing and story breaking for over the last year.

Hell, In Michelle Yeoh's Ready Room interview, Both her and Wil Wheaton pretty much tease the fact that this is only the beginning for her character of emperor Georgiou.

Michelle Yeoh is a major star, And the Trek franchise is lucky to have her wanting to headline a series.

The future of the Section 31 series is not in doubt. The only question is when will they start production and when will it premiere (And that's primarily the situation with everything right now because of the COVID-19 situation.

Hell right now given the state of things in California and Los Angeles (where the Picard series is filmed) - I'd be concerned before the future of that series given Patrick Stewart's age, and the COVID-19 situation given that all TV and film production in California is completely shut down again.

Didn't Decker just go loco? And realistically, genocide of the Borg was the better answer.

To me "Genocide of the Borg" makes about as much sense as genocide of cancer, or AIDS... Every member of the Borg would choose to be his/her former self if they could.

Having Saru, Culber, Burnham, and Adria have holographic skins made no sense plot wise and appeared to serve only to prevent this kid from seeing a new Kelpian until the end.

Then having the radiation damage appear through the holo skins was complete nonsense. The holo can cover a Kelpian not only to look like a human PLUS affect Saru's leg/foot structure to where even he could feel a difference walking, could provide a holo skin for Gray who is literally only a little more than a figment of imagination/memory of a previous host... But said holo can't hide radiation burns?

Ah now I get ya. I was trying to think of an episode

Shinzon sucked except for the fact that we can now look back at the time a scrawny looking Tom Hardy played a young Patrick Stewart

Wouldn't have worked. Michael probably didn't find out about the Vance-Osyraa conference until the after-action debriefings.

We're doing a Zoom Session where we're talking about the Season Finale of Disco. Tonight at 7:00pm Eastern Time. We'll be talking about it for probably a few hours.

I used to host them, @Captain Moe is hosting them now. This is probably the last one I'll be in for a while, so if you want to pop in for this one, feel free!

It's nice seeing people who I've interacted with for a year or two... or 20. Either way. But what a season it's been!
