I'm assuming you're talking about the original PotA movies, because there is absolutely no way you could be including Dawn and War in that. Those movies were fucking amazing.

Fox was involved in the development and financing of the original trilogy, and the company distributed the prequel trilogy.

    Nope.

FOX financed A New Hope, and ONLY A New Hope; George financed Empire and Jedi completely independently.

Yeah, that sounds more right to me. The language in the star wars wiki led me astray.

He's probably lumping in the Tim Burton/Mark Wahlberg remake with the prequel trilogy. In which case it's still only one bad movie out of four. The original series had five films.

^ "Dawn", "Rise", and "War" aren't 'prequels' to anything; they're a straight-up reboot of the franchise.

But that's really beside the point, because @kirk55555 seems to think that anything that doesn't have the Disney logo attached to it sucks, and that his opinion is the only thing that matters.

I didn't say that, stop putting words in my mouth. Not everything without a Disney logo sucks, far from it. But, most things with a Disney logo rate from good to amazing, and most things with a FOX logo are garbage. Stuff with a Disney logo is also more consistently good, at least when we're talking about films and franchises.

They have been, ironically, absolutely terrible at animated tv shows (meaning stuff like Avengers, Spider-Man, Disney channel stuff, etc) for over a decade but its not like FOX was producing animated classics. The only part of Marvel that suffered from the Disney purchase was the animated division, with the three really good shows that were being made at the time getting cancelled and Jeph Loeb, a man who thinks that all cartoons should be Superfriends and ignoring all the advancements in even kids cartoons since then, was put in charge of shitting out a bunch of animated crap with Marvel characters. Vut, since FOX just produces the stale turds that are The Simpsons and Family Guy, its not like they were even competing with Disney in that area.

Ok this is a tangent, but I'm talking about the movies where humans, with jets and aircraft carriers and nuclear weapons can't beat monkeys. In the old POTA, the humans blew themselves up, which made sense. In the new ones, the monkeys rise up against people with the capability of literally killing hundreds of thousands of apes with the push of a button. None of the modern POTA films make any damn sense. Disease or not, the surviving humans have weapons the apes just can't use, I don't care how smart they are. The apes aren't bullet proof, and at some point the humans are going to say "fuck it" and just use weapons that no one can escape (even a hiding ape is going to die to a nuke or even just unrestricted use of bombs). Except they don't, because then you only have a bad movie with James Franco, not a bad trilogy. The original POTA wasn't high art, but at least it managed to explain its world in a way that allowed me to suspend my disbelief.

Also, the fourth movie I'm talking about is the movie where Marky Mark got back to "Earth" and saw a statue of an ape version of Abraham Lincoln.

    Yes, you did.

    I'm not.

Your attitude in this thread has been one of "only Disney is going to make more of the kinds of movies I like to see", and "only what I want to see matters", and you've repeatedly said so.

Disney isn't the only one that makes movies I like. They are the most consistently good, but other studios can produce decent stuff. That's why I'm not saying I want Disney to buy every studio. I'm fine with just FOX, one of the worst studios and one that's producing particularly nasty shit in the superhero genre (seriously, compared to stuff like Logan or Fant4stic even Man of Steel seems almost acceptable) being sold off and letting Disney take over.

So, while Disney is easily the best studio, they aren't the only good one. FOX just happens to be especially bad, and have a bunch of stuff I really want to see Disney take control of, since Disney at worst is generally still competent and FOX's average output at this point is crap.

When they have control, that doesn't mean that they will become good. Unfortunately, if they have so many products to manage, their output may exceed their quality.

Regardless, Disney acquiring more properties is not a positive to me.

Let's assume for a second that Fox executives are shitty and Disney executives are great: Disney is now taking on many of those shitty Fox executives, and the shitty Fox executives may actually end up in charge of Disney in the long run. James Murdoch, for instance, may be looking to move to Disney as part of the deal, and Disney insiders have already had to play down rumors of James Murdoch becoming Bob Iger's successor as head of Disney.

The deal isn't official until it gets regulatory approval, which is expected to take 18 months. Not only will post-production be complete before that happens, the movie will be in theaters before it happens.

Where, exactly, did this 18 months figure come from? I can't find any real source for it online

I had the same thought, but it doesn't seem unreasonable given the bureaucratic process.

Yeah, didn't somebody upthread say it was June 2018 that the deal goes through?

This may be cynical of me, but I'm not sure there's going to be a bureaucratic process on this, although if there's actual sourceable evidence confirming that my cynicism is unfounded, I'll cede to it.
