DS9 Complete Series DVDs

Hi, I joined the forums just so I could ask this question. I just finished the entire DS9 series and so far have found it to be the best Trek there is.

I found the complete series on Amazon and various other places, all of them having very different prices. Amazon has the cheapest deal, which can be found here:

http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Dee...=1-1&keywords=deep+space+nine+complete+series

Some of the reviews are a little discouraging, such as DVDs being of poor quality, or the packaging sucking.

Does anyone with previous experience have any advice on where to buy the series from?

Thanks a ton!

I have only season 5 from this American edition. The packaging is pretty, but indeed it breaks easily, because it's plastic, and if you open/close it a lot, it starts tearing down. Also the DVDs holder (those little hooka that hold the disk) break off, and the disk is not securely attached.

If you have a no-region DVD player, you could consider other countries/regions edition. I bought an Australian edition: lovely packaging, a lot more functional (regular DVD boxes), and a lot cheaper than the American one. The content on the DVDs, judging from the season five I have of both, is exactly the same.

I bought mine on eBay, new.

I bought the individual seasons rather than the full series set some time back, but it looks to be the same packaging. Mine have held up pretty well but it's not the kind of thing that I'm grabbing, opening and closing repeatedly. I'll typically watch the series when the urge strikes and then it will sit untouched for a pretty good length of time. I suppose if you'll be handling it continually, the packaging may begin to break down. Otherwise, you should be fine.

I'd purchase from a business that will take them back if you have problems with the discs. You might be tempted to keep an eye out for a cheap set on ebay like I did. Don't do that. It's hit or miss.

I purchased mine on ebay new. Some of the discs didn't even play properly due to results from the poor quality of the packaging. They fell apart sometimes literally when I opened the package. I'm guessing because they have been tossed from warehouse to warehouse over the years and the quality of the packaging was so cheap to begin with. I've had people suggest perhaps my discs are bootleg, but I've compared at this point and they are definitely the real deal.

Just spend the extra bucks and go with a walmart or some other business where you know you can return the set if there are problems.

Alternatively you can wait it out another year or so and see if any solid plans come together for DS9 on bluray. There are no plans at this point, but it couldn't hurt to wait a bit longer to see what happens.

I bought mine on eBay, and one season had two disks 3, and not 4. They replaced it very quickly, and without any problems.

I think the seller was a company, not an individual. I can't tell for sure, as it was ages ago. They couldn't have knows there was a problem before sending it, because the whole thing was sealed.

Buy the seasons individually off Amazon. The full series price is $240 which comes out to about $60 a season. Way too high. Avoid Ebay unless there are pix of the actual sets being sold as it's full of fakes and can be a pain in the ass.

The DVDs are fine, quality wise. They're generally lacking on special features but the episodes are all there. Audio is Dolby Digital 5.1. Nothing special but it's serviceable.
