Kevin Smith talks Episode VII (filmed just one week ago):

That's a great story. Though I have to say his take on the prequils was spot on, but spot on with how he juxtaposed them to these new films.

Hard to know which would be more thrilling: seeing the exterior of the fully-built Falcon in person, and getting to walk under it and around it, or walking through the interior like Smith did...

I do wonder just how much of the interior set has been built into the exterior mock-up. IIRC the interior was way too bit to be able to fit inside the original build, so perhaps it's just the cockpit and a section of corridor at the top of the ramp. Even so, I think back in the original films they had a separate cockpit set for most of the shots.

That's the impression I've gotten over the years. For shots taking place in the middle of the Falcon (the open area with the Dejarik table, where Luke trained with the remote and where Han and Chewie worked on repairing systems while the ship was hiding in the asteroid) there was entirely separate set from the cockpit and adjoining door/connecting hallway.

AFAIK the internal set had a cockpit and the "full size" external piece also had a somewhat detailed cockpit (probably just the rear wall and no dashboard). Apparently the external prop was produced at 75% of the intended size.

Del Rey has just released a massive free ebook sample, with 35 excerpts, including ones for 4 upcoming Star Wars books.
    They are:
    A New Dawn
    Tarkin
    Heir to The Jedi
    Lords of the Sith

While I'm hopeful for Episode VII, I'm not sure about the books. I'll check them out if I can, and I'm hoping they're good. I'll give them a chance. Well, actually, I won't be reading New Dawn since I don't intend to watch Rebels, but the other three have potential. Lords of the Sith especially sounds like it could be cool.

I've never read any books by Kevin Hearne or Paul S. Kemp, but I've liked the SW books by Lucerno that I've read, like his NJO books and Darth Darth Plagueis, so hopefully Tarkin is as good. Heir to the Jedi is an unknown to me. It sounds like an interesting idea (a first person Luke book), but the author hasn't done any SW before (and he really hasn't done much period) so I'm hoping it turns out well. They won't be replacing the old EU for me, but if they're good books, I'll be happy.

I haven't read a SW novel in ages, but with the excitement surrounding the new movies I'm at the point where I'm hungry for anything SW, so I'll almost certainly be checking them out.

Except perhaps for Tarkin. I can't say I've ever been all that curious to know his backstory (the few episodes of TCW involving Tarkin were enough for me).

Yeah you can definitely tell in a few ESB shots that Chewie is taking up a LOT more space in the cockpit that they built into the external prop.

They've also released a Star Wars sampler with just the 4 Star Wars books.

Unconfirmed spoilers for the beginning of the movie:

    http://www.aintitcool.com/node/68054

The opening is a severed hand holding a lightsaber falling from orbit onto Tattooine, to be discovered by the new young characters, who go to Han with it. It belongs to Luke, who Han hasn't seen since Endor. Meanwhile, on an ice planet the Imperials are cooking up a new super weapon.

I hope this isn't true because I really don't like the sound of this. Han hasn't seen Luke in THIRTY YEARS???? What the hell is that?!?!

And yet another Imperial super weapon?

I'm really hoping this is a made up scoop.

The opening scene isn't a starship flyby? Way to rape my childhood Abrams. ;)

The hand thing sounds like one of those old early 90's novels where Darth Vader's glove survived-and the other plot point sounds like most of the post-Zahn Bantam novels :( In other words pretty much sounds awful. So I hope this is just a false rumor.

Chris Hemsworth will play an Imperial officer that gets sucked out of a star destroyer........while in hyperspace.

The broad storyline sounds great....... The actual object that kicks the whole thing sounds so fucking stupid, that I have to believe its total nonsense... Until I remembered JJ Abrams rewrote the script.......

I'm actually not a fan of the rumored storyline because it focuses too much on Han. Luke is the hero of Star Wars, not Han.

I'm not even sure how it would survive the trip intact, built to last I guess...

If it's his cybernetic replacement hand that was surgically installed after the battle on Cloud City then maybe it was constructed of such strong and resilient metals and polymers that it could well survive an atmospheric entry. Who knows....I'm getting the feeling this might be a test balloon that's been floated to see what the fanbase says, but if it is indeed the opening scene of the new film I'm sure "Star Wars science" and "Star Wars logic" will explain it.

It might not make sense, but it'll be explained.
