Second Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver

Thanks for that chaps; yesterday had got a bit too fraught for tempers not to fray. I should at least be free for the book (which, btw, involves getting loads of reference scren caps for teh artists, so difficult to do any more till they're done) in three weeks or so; other problems may take longer unfortunately.

So, it now appears that THAT Penlight wasn't used a the 2nd Dr's Sonic Screwdriver after all. Have a look at this info that a doing the rounds on the internet. Interesting...

Or it's just a different prop with different function.

Especially the first Doctor's torch, what with the TARDIS hidden in a mostly unlit room where having light comes in handy.

The genuine article was brought out in 1968 with a specific purpose and later innovated upon. Vibrating sound waves can heat up and act as a blowtorch, or send out waves to detonate mines. Using it to reverse magnetic fields with sticky tape and thin metal wires, though I suppose he could be rigging an electromagnet but electricity is not produced by directional sound waves vibrating at high-- it's just a generic kid show, let them write any old faff. It'll get high ratings every time.

And the soldier's a bit of a nitwit for handing over his gun so readily. Why not just go to a hinged door and unscrew one screw from a lower hinge where the soldier could look in awe from a safe distance and then not worry if he's about to be shot with his own gun. Sigh... Still, at least "The War Games" had entire episodes written in a very hurried pace because of season 6's ongoing production problems and it's amazing what details they did do marvelously well with.

Or at least a perception filter, so people wouldn't even pay attention to the fact that it was a sonic. ;)

Or people are too thick to notice or care, no magic mushroom paper required. :D

Certain! I have done a lot, and I mean a lot of research on the 2nd Dr's Sonics. Here is a thread I started with pictures to illustrate the 3 different Sonics Pat had.

As for Hartnell having the same prop, as the War Games Sonic. Its not possible for one very obvious reason. Out of interest, where are the photos or refs of Hartnell with that pen torch. BTW The photo you linked is Troughton with a normal screwdriver. I have that picture as a Hard copy and it's very obvious.

Your link isn't loading. And, instead of being coy about the "obvious reason," just state it here for those of us whom it's not obvious.
