Season SIX OFFICIAL TNG Blu-Ray Discussion Thread

I didn't read through all of the past few pages.

Am I the only one having issues?

Tried to watch A Fistful of Datas and the audio is not synced up right with the video.

Very disappointing.

Pre ordered from Amazon and this is the first chance I have had to watch any episodes.

Is there a way to get replacement discs if this is a common issue with CBS on this release?

I personally didn't notice any problems with that episode and I haven't heard anyone complain about audio sync on any of the episodes, actually. Is it just generally off throughout, or only at specific times? If so, can you provide timecode?

You can also try skipping to the end of the episode (or fast forwarding) and returning to the menu. Then launch the episode again and see if the sync improves. That worked for me with part one of the new Season Six documentary. :)

No one else has described audio sync issues with the episodes. Though a couple have mentioned sync issues with the bonus features.

Is any of your equipment new? I have to set my AV receiver to a 200ms audio delay due to my new TV. Sometimes it can also be a BD player glitch. Stopping and restarting my player has gotten rid of the lag.

You should try on a different TV and player before sending the discs back.

I haven't noticed any sync issues on Fistful of Datas, or any other episode so far. I have 1 disc to go.

I was having sync issues for a bit. Pausing for a second fixed it. But, then my bluray player died and i had to buy a new one. No issues since then. My player was a few years old so age was more than likely my issue.

Listening to the "Frame of Mind" commentary right now, incredibly boring. Lots of director tech talk, very little of it related to the actual episode. Would much rather have had Braga and the Okudas.

It was a very interesting commentary on how episodes are shot.

I appreciate the technical commentaries, because it gives some extra flavor into how these shows are made.

It's a dying breed, but I'd love it if TNG did some podcast commentaries that fans could download and listen along with episodes. That would eliminate scheduling issues.

For those of us in the UK who have Sky HD and access to SyFy, the channel starts TNG season 6 at 9pm tomorrow night. I'm assuming (hoping) they'll be showing the new HD remasters as opposed to the old fuzzy SD upscaled.

NOPE

Can we all resolve now to delete our series links and not watch tng in the star trek zone until they are in HD once again so they get a small spike in viewing figures but enough to convince them to carry on purchasing the HD rights when they become available?

It's your civic duty as HD worshipping trek fans ;)

Turned over briefly from the football just gone 9pm to see what SyFy were showing, and I must admit my heart sank a little bit. That said I watched a large part of Times Arrow Pt 1 on SyFy HD on Monday night, and while miles better than the DVD, it was still noticeably soft. I've had the 5th season Blu-ray set for months now, but haven't got around to watching most of it. I'm hoping the Blu-ray will be a bit sharper.

There's usually a release window where the season is an exclusive to Blu-ray to promote sales. My guess would be 90-days from now they'll start showing up on SyFy UK.

I'm fairly sure SyFy started showing one of the earlier TNG seasons in HD before the Blu-rays were released in the UK.

Happy to be corrected though.

You're right, I think they carried on to series 3 after series 2 ended before the Blu-Rays were out here.

Hmm, that's cool, nice to SyFy in the UK actually be aggressive about getting TNG-R, wish a network would care that much here in the states.

The only explanation I have about S2 and S3 continuing on so quickly would be that S2 and S3 were done overlapping by two different VFX companies, so perhaps they were ready quickly and SyFy UK made arrangements to get the episodes ASAP. I know they made the deal to get S1 very quickly after they were released in 2012.

If you have the bandwidth and no download limits, season 6 is available at you know where. 81GB download, which is about 3.5GB per episode. .far more than is necessary for 45 mins of good quality HD.

Season one is currently showing on BBC America.

Yes... 2 years too late...

SyFy UK secured the right to the S1 (and all subsequent seasons) the same year it was released (BD release of S1 was Summer 2012, SyFy UK started airing it Fall 2012).

Well I own the BDs, that's of course not my point. My point was it being broadcast. It's nice to turn on the TV and be able to catch an episode here and there. It also shows there's enough interest out there that a network thinks it matters it secure the rights to TNG-R.

No, this didn't happen - after season 1 and 2 HD broadcast the first time, SyFy actually ran season 3 in Standard Definition (just before the Blu Ray was released). The HD masters of season 3 actually premiered on the NEXT go-around.

To date, SyFy has not beaten the Blu Ray releases... I suspect the agreement is it premieres them shortly after, or on the next run (so Season 6 HD will be broadcast on the next go-around).
