I'm actually kind of interested in this. To me, Stargate has always presented a great concept with a lot of untapped potential.
Like Possum said, The film, while entertaining at the time, is, in retrospect, basically the preamble definition of the series.
And the series itself was never quite what it could have been. The first third was excellent, no doubt. But only if you can get passes the immense block of cheese. The middle third is a mixed bag of mediocrity. And the final third is bloody awful.
And I find Atlantis and SGU unwatchable.
I think it ultimately boils down to how much of it do they reconstruct. If they go ahead and try to reuse the characters and the pyramids with their alien pharaohs (Goa'uld or otherwise.), it's destined to fail.
But if they strip everything away to it just being an ancient alien devise that creates a wormhole that sends you instantly anywhere in the universe and start from scratch, it could be good.
