Yeah, that's rubbish. All deleted scenes are in HD.

 

It seems I'm not the only person disappointed in the way this Season was handled.
I keep getting called out on my disapproval of the Season on a different website.

 

The optimist in me likes to believe that after the VFX "oddities" in Season Six they'll pay more attention to quality control and possible remaining bugs that can be fixed before the Season Seven discs are pressed.

The realist in me knows that the season 7 episodes are basically done, according to TrekCore.

If a misplaced (though it's technically placed correctly, it just wasn't replaced) beam and a door swoosh coming out of the wrong channel is the worst we have to expect in these releases, be THANKFUL.

 

I've rounded up 6 errors in the show so far.

 

And not one of them even approaches the issues of season 2, or any instance where SD had to be substituted, or cases when crappy CGI wasn't upgraded (like in The Inner Light). This is a drop in the bucket. Besides, the main "error" that started this whole dialogue was just maintaining something that has existed since 1992. Fine by me.

 

Rewatching "Chain of Command" right now. Man oh man, can I ever empathize with the crew, as I've got a boss who has pretty much the EXACT same personality as Jellico.

That being said, the man's greatest achievement was finally putting Troi in a uniform.

 

But I don't think the Season Seven discs are going to be pressed next week, right?

After the oversights in Season Six I think an extra quality control / sighting of the Season Seven footage is appropriate and not too much asked before they wrap it up.

Obvious VFX flaws were corrected in past seasons (I think everybody felt this was great and the least we could expect), thus painstakingly recreating flaws or errors / preserving these in HD is pretty lame, to say the very least. It's a wasted opportunity.

Not involved in the decision making process, just allowed to see episodes as they are completed (in 480p with burned-in timecode), so they can submit errors to the remastering team. The ultimate decision whether to fix shots would still be up to CBS Digital -- but at least they would be properly informed that the overlooked errors existed months before they went to final authoring.

 

Stars inside the Dyson Sphere is a pretty bad goof. I mean, technically, you shouldn't be able to see background stars when you're that close to any star (or the day side of a planet, for that matter), but maybe we can rationalise it in this case as... sparkly city lights? Erm.

The rest is no biggie.

What's perhaps slightly irritating is that some of these errors could (or will) be fixed for new master copies for streaming and broadcast services, leaving the early adopters permanently stuck with the expensive "first draft". Or is that off the table?

 

If they're not going to do DS9, I doubt they're going back to fix glitches in already released material. There'd be no monetary gain by doing so.

 

You'll be disappointed if DS9 is remastered. Lots of soft focus photography was used for that show.

 

Watching Timescape last night I was amused to notice for the first time that Patrick Stewart is wearing his long fingernails throughout the entire scene. Only the insert shot of his hand reaching for the fruit was filmed separately. You can see him curling his hand to hide them when he walks in, puts his long-nailed hand on the console, then curls it back up again as he walks to the table.

Also, when time gets started up and we see what happened on the Enterprise, the helmsman accidentally kicks the plexiglass that was set up to shield him from the exploding console. (You can see the bottom of it rise up in the bottom right of frame when he falls.)

 

The stars there could be an optical illusion intentionally created by the builders to give the inhabitants the impression to live on a real planet out in space,
probably to prevent claustrophobia attacks

 

How the heck would a society function inside that thing? There would never be night.

 

Poor wording on my part, "participation" is what I had in mind.

We don't know what alien species used to inhabit the inside of the Dyson Sphere. For a reptilian species permanent sunlight might have been considered beneficial, and people living in the upper or northern hemisphere of our planet are also somewhat accustomed to long periods of day or night.

Fixing the original flaw by illuminating the other side of the Dyson Sphere (i.e. background of the star) might have gone beyond the "original presentation" mission goal, but removing the stars would have shown that someone paid attention.

I'm sure I'm not the only one noticing things for the first time with the show in HD. After Picard defiantly says "THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS" at the end, I never noticed that Madred flashed a smirk, signaling his realization that Picard beat him.

 

I'm just noticing Geordi's soul patch this season and wondering if I missed it in earlier seasons or it's what he kept after shaving off the beard midseason.

 

I don't understand, why there would never be night? It was a complete solar system, a/several planets rotating around a sun.

Anyhow the system is flawed since entropy would still lead to equally distributed matter/energy in time inside the sphere, including to continous heating due to fusion reaction of the sun.

 

There were planets? I didn't see any. I just saw the surface of the sphere which had land and water masses.
