John Barrowman, MBE

John is one of the 2 non-bands I follow on Facebook & I've seen the news there.

Congratulations!

I miss Capt. Jack.

Nope, that's a knighthood. He's on his way. But there's a number of steps. You have to be a Connery or McCartney to get that far

He's a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire -- the lowest rank of an honour that relates to an entity that became defunct many years before he was born.

Anyone know if John here is the first Doctor Who regular actor to get this Most Excellent title? Or is it just a Totally Bogus thing that no actual Doctor Who regular has attained the honour?

Looks like John Hurt is CBE (what's the difference?), but really he's more of a guest at this point. When he's done a million audio adventures let's revisit him. ;) In the meantime, there are some guest actors who are an MBE:

Patrick Stewart and Anthony Hopkins have knighthoods.

If Captain Picard and Hannibal Lector can get knighted, Captain Jack Harkness should get it, too.

That's Captain Picard and Professor Xavier all in one package. A Shakespearean package at that.

CBE is Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire which is two steps up from MBE. If the War Doctor can only get that high, I don't hold much hope for Sir Jack.

Giving a knighthood to Jack Harkness would be infinitely cooler than giving it to the actor who plays him.

The five classes of award to the Order are, in descending order of seniority:

1. Knight Grand Cross or Dame Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (GBE)

2. Knight Commander or Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE or DBE)

3. Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE)

4. Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE)

5. Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE)

Also, John spent most of his life in the U.S.
