24: Live Another Day. Discussion Thread. (Spoilers)

Another excellent episode. I'm really enjoying this season and I'm so glad to have 24 back, even if they end up recycling the same tropes over and over. I was hoping for a last minute fake out, but nope, he went out a hero. I actually would have liked a moment of doubt or fear in the end...

Was that episode 8? the first eight weren't going to have a time jump, the writers couldn't figure out a way to stop the action. However all 24 hours will have passed by the end. So it should be interesting what the do. I think the last episode will time jump many many hours.

Yep, it has been eight episodes so far. Wow...I actually had to look it up because I didn't think we'd had that many so far.

I've read the press releases up through episode 10 and
no time jump through episode 10. The producers say one is coming up. It's either after episode 10 or 11 at this point. I'm guessing it's after ten so they have 2 hours post time jump. 2 episodes is better than one in that situation I think.

Man, I can't believe it's that close to being over! :(

They should have gone ahead and done the full 24 hours, they've had a few years to write the season so it's not like in past seasons when they were pressured to crank out 24 episodes and struggled to write interesting stories and threads to maintain the full 24-hours.

^ If the time jump doesn't involve Jack (Kiefer's always said this season is his last), maybe they can do a "mid-quel" series detailing what went on during that time.

Kind of like nuBSG did episodes that took place on the Pegasus during THAT time jump.

The time jump will take us to the end of the 24 hours, so whatever it will be has to be a huge jump.

And the writers were still writing the show as it was begin filmed. Don't think they had these scripts around forever, they didn't.

That pinky knife the hitman pulled out was just adorable. What was that? His backup in case of Smurf attack?

Heller rocked right up till the end. William Devane is a great actor. No way did Chloe save him. Unless somehow she was able to manipulate the objective audience view such that a fake Wembley Stadium just got hit with a 24-verse Hellfire.

This will be the first time a sitting US president has been assassinated on-screen. They've come close so many times, upto and including Pres. Keeler miraculously surviving Air Force One getting shot down.

Now, I would think this action would have the exact opposite effect the terrorists would want, long term. I get the short term revenge part, but the US President just volunteered to get executed by airstrike in order to save British citizens. That's pretty damn hardcore. I would expect British public opinion of the US to swing massively back in favor of the alliance.

With only 4 episodes left, and a definite time-jump coming up soon, I'm thinking the current threat is going to be very quickly resolved and replaced with Jack getting sold out to the Russians while Kate & Chloe end up taking down Navarro and Gravelly McEvilvoice, along with their Chinese connection. If this really is Jack's absolute last day, I predict a downer ending, with him either dead or in Russian hands.

Considering the show's real-time format I doubt any shenanigans when it comes to Heller's death. There simply wasn't enough time for everything that'd need to happen, to happen.

I also sort of doubt the season will end with a "downer ending" considering this season is meant to end Jack's character's story.

Fox's Latin American channel Canal Fox gave away a pretty big spoiler in their promo for next week's episode. I've heard they've done this thing before in their The Walking Dead promos.

Very much agreed. I thought Heller was fairly passive throughout this season, but him barking at Jack and putting him in his place (which not may people can do) more than made up for any qualms I had about the character. Devane did some mighty fine work in this episode.

(side note, I tried to quote you, and it revealed your spoilers. "DAMMIT!" But I blame the system, not you.)

Networks in general tend to be pretty bad about this. NBC is notoriously great at this. The voiceover will ask, "Will X marry so-and-so?" then they cut to the wedding.

It could be the drone threat is resolved then jack gets knock out and given to the Russians, jack wakes up hours later and escapes etc.. just a guess.

seems possible...

Would be nice to see Jack get some peace at the end, with all he's given up over the years. Started this whole thing at home with his family, so sucks to end with him off being tortured in some goulag.

From the 'did it really happen' standpoint, can at least understand the question being asked. Chloe mentioned she can't control the drone, but there were two other feeds she might have a shot at. No silent clock for the death of a sitting President. maybe she got to the video feed? Not really much time, but truth in how long it takes to do things has never been a 24 specialty. Downtown LA, during rush hour, to ANYWHERE in a single commercial break, afterall...
