The restaurant name Cracker Barrel offends me.

I want it changed now.

Please President Obama, Harry Reid make this happen A.S.A.P!!

It's somewhat misleading; I see very few crackers dining at Cracker Barrel. A definite dearth of old pickups relative to Nissan sedans.

Clearly you need to see the Cracker Barrels in their native environment. I assure you, the name ain't so misleading then. :p

Cracker Barrell: Oh, you have a 25-minute wait for your table? That's a shame. Why don't you walk around our gift-shop lobby for a while and maybe you'll find something you'll like.

^^^ I've always had good experiences a Cracker Barrel. Obviously the food's not to everybody's taste - nor mine always - but they do a good breakfast and the cornbread and biscuits are always good.

Yes, thanks for making it clear that your real purpose here is to defend racists, as if that wasn't obvious from the first post. Have fun with that!

Well this thread will end well.

I hate Cracker Barrel (which by the way is named after ACTUAL barrels containing baked wheat wafers) because the food stinks, and the service is pushy.

I know plenty of White Southerners who proudly declare themselves to be "crackers", so the chances of anyone being offended are awfully small EVEN IF the restaurant was named after them.

Making fun of white people is a serious structural issue in the US. I mean, just look at the history of oppression there. White people are earning less money, are often unemployed, don't ever get into positions of power in society, politics or the economy and...

Wait, no.

I enjoy the idea of cracking software that has malicious features, for the purpose of exposing them and warning people, I guess if I had the time that would make me a proud cracker. How does that excuse a blatantly racist team name like "Redskins"?

Here's the thing, while I think the arguments against the Washington Redskins is a bit extreme, I can understand why people have problems with it and am not completely opposed to the name being changed if it truly offends people.

But it's a false equivalence to liken it to the term "cracker."

Why? Because, well, simply white people in this country are by and large the dominant race. And as an extension of that over the centuries we've came up with a number of slurs against people of other skin colors, redskin being one of them. So it's a term that was used to oppress and put down an entire race of people.

The term "cracker" doesn't have that same weight, it's a term that was created by the oppressed to put down their oppressors. Which, well, doesn't hurt nearly as much. To borrow from Louis C.K. on the subject:

"What are you going to do, call me cracker? "Darn, ruined my day. Taking me back to a time of owning land and people."

So, yeah, they're not the same thing at all. Terms white people created to put down other races were created to marginalize them and "put them in their place." Terms they came up for us? Was them trying to fight back, but really can't hurt as much because at the end of the day we used those terms to oppress and control an entire group of people in order to make them on a lower level than "us."

Calling us "cracker" is pretty much them going, "Well you're a doody head too!"

Nothing like watching offended white people try to nail themselves to a cross. Especially, when they don't understand what they think it is that offends them. Funny stuff.

I guess we need to put "derogatory terms" in with the Bible and U.S. Constitution as things Conservatives simply can't grasp.

Mmmmmm not sure this is a good argument to make.

How many black men call each-other the N-word?
