Voyager's novelverse refit

F. King Daniel

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
In the post-"Endgame" novel Full Circle, Voyager is given an extensive refit and upgrade in order to use Starfleet's new Quantum Slipstream dive system. German publisher Cross Cult have posted the first picture of this upgraded Voyager - or at least, their version of it, on their Full Circle translation.

Apparently this isn't the Voyager refit we'll eventually see on novel covers in the US and elsewhere. Mark Rademaker has been working on his own upgraded Voyager for awhile (it's his designs for the rest of the Voyager fleet used on the cover here) but until his is made public, I guess this is what she looks like.

What do you all think? I really like the longer Enterprise-E style nacelles - Voyager's originals looked stubby and atrophied to me. But I hate those impulse engines - they look like they'll leave nasty burns down the engineering hull the minute they're turned on.

That design could not look any uglier if it tried. Completely unbalanced now. Do the nacelles still move?

I like the general idea, but I really want to see Mark's final version. I also wouldn't mind final versions of the other ships in the fleet like the Mulciber class, the Galen class, and the Theophrastus class. I'm pretty sure the Merian class has already been seen, but I don't have a link..

I'm not totally sure since it's been awhile, but I don't think they do. Which would mean the collectors have no line-of-sight from the front like they should.

Sooo... not gonna be challenging the TMP refit for the sexiest starship crown any time soon...

I am not sure if having the Collectors in line of sight matters much with the Slipstream drive,,,
I do not care for the location of the new Impulse engines- having the exhaust raking down the side of your hull cannot be a good thing.
The new Slipstream engines are uninspiring- the USS Aventine (Vesta-class) has some beautiful lines and the Slipstream engines are elegant and take the Starfleet design direction shown in the Sovereign class further. This Voyager version looks like a cobbled up mess.

King Daniel, I love that pic of Tom; thanks! I still think he'd look good in a kilt. Och, aye.

Tom is looking very Young-Shatner-Like, here ... He's even wearing a rug! VOYAGER looks like complete shit! This cover is just entirely too busy-looking, as well. And it tries too hard where it needn't and doesn't try hard enough where it should ...

I really want to get back to this ASAP! Somewhere in January I restarted with a bit of 2D drawings, but it needs more evolutions. However a lot of things where on my plate including that IXS Enterprise, so life got kind of in the way. (It's the curse of this project.)

This is what I have so far:

My local comic book store only sells the German versions of Trek novels - they look gorgeous on the shelf, too bad I never buy them as I only read the English ones. Meh.

Marrrrrrrk! Looking good. What are we talking about with regard to these new shield emitters? Like a ventral fin and a pair of antennae up top?

Mark

Thanks! I have been looking at some research and concept work from Rick Sternbach. There is this (known) concept that has a big "fin" up top, it would function as a shield emitter. It was a bit too much, but I thought it could come back on the ventral side. (Smaller and in a thinner shape.) The antennae up top probably will be gone in the next evolution. :)
