Many of the folks I remember most are probably best not mentioned, as their exits weren't exactly peaceful. Also, "don't feed the trolls" has been beaten into us so often that I'm afraid that just typing their names will bring them forth again.

    :):):);):):p:):);):):p:):):)

I also remember two posters who met and fell in love here, and then irritated everyone with their lovey doveyness in seemingly every thread. Chased away because of love. How tragic. But it really was annoying.

And of course who doesn't miss some Jayson threads.

I also miss the weekly recap threads, I don't know why but I found them so fascinating.

I miss magical envelope signal that so happily announced you had a personal message. Or just got a warning. You know who you are.

I remember when it was revealed that the Borg would be appearing in an episode of Enterprise season 2, and how mental the forum went

TrekBBS seemed so much more...hectic 10 years ago. I think the internets in general has a different vibe now. But I guess that's true for every internet generation. In 10 years people will be reminiscing about the facebook and the social medias and the instergrams, and how wonderful and magical it all was.

Modern bulletin boards, like their local dial-up predecessors before them, are dying. Granted, the format will still be around for some time, but with mobile computing becoming the norm, the demand for a discussion based, large format software system is fading. Facebook has dominated that corner of the internet (which sucks, because Facebook is horrible for any kind of involved discussion).

The golden age of BBSes have passed. Gods knows what's next up.

I've held onto it ever since I learned we were switching forum software, just in case it wasn't restored. It's so pretty, and full of so much potential. :adore:

One of the best things ever about that flashing envelope was Jen's "A message from God!!!!" drunk thread.

I miss the orange and black skin Christian gave us for Halloween one year. My retinas never quite recovered.

And Tamek's wonderful resignation, anyone else remember that?

I might be remembering this wrongly - it fact I can't be certain it wasn't just a dream - but didn't someone post some really disgusting porn during the American night and a group of Australians (which didn't include me) decided that they could stop people seeing the porn by posting to other threads to get the threads containing the porn off the front page. As a result of all the activity the board crashed?

Ah, that brings back memories. If I ran this shit, bringing the envelope back would be high on my priority list.

    :techman:

    Whut?

    Porn attacks from Troll Kingdom.

The brief but awesome St. John Talbot uprising.

    Side boobs and front bottoms.

I always forget his name, but the Communist guy...??

And of course I mention this every time the subject comes up: Storm Rucker's foray into the Voyager Forum, leading to 10 warnings (which I believe is still the single-thread record). da woim's classic mod-rant is still out there somewhere...

I'm of the mind that forums will remain a strong refuge for people who like more involved, complicated discussions. Fewer people are using them, but most of those who are gone, you wouldn't really want around anyway. Let them have their twitters and Facebooks. I'm good with forums. :techman:

Of course, if you want heavy doses of stupid in BBS form, there's always Reddit.

He went by hammer and Malleus. He also had a major thing for Gates McFadden. Every forum needs a Stalin apologist, right?

Feh. Let all the commoners go to Facebook and the like, and we'll keep quality conversations here. I mean, generally speaking, even our trolls are a higher caliber than what is found elsewhere on the 'net.

Besides, those dial up boards aren't as dead as you might think, either. :)
