Isn't that basically the cover of the 2004 Ships of the Line Calendar, but with the Excelsior and Klingon ships edited out?

I remember hoping that this was to be a DS9 novel, given that "the more things change, the more they stay the same" was the last line of DS9.

Looks kind of bland! The ebook itself looks good though. I'd get it.

6 months after The Motion Picture, eh? So it must go in between various sections of Forgotten History.

If it's in continuity with Forgotten History and other books, then six months after TMP would put it around the start of the period when Spock takes leave to rescue and mentor Saavik, or about a month after Mere Anarchy: The Darkness Drops Again Part 1 and three months before the middle portion (Ch. VIII-XI) of Forgotten History. Also perhaps shortly after the frame story of Julia Ecklar's The Kobayashi Maru, which is more than four months after TMP according to my notes.

It seems to be a different image.

It's from a Ships of the Line Calendar, definitely. Had it in my hands just yesterday, but I don't know which one. Maybe 2013.

It's six months plus or minus whatever's necessary to land it right between all these other events in its own little window. Beyond that, I'll let the Timeliners arm wrestle to decide the best day of the week for it to start! ;)

Assuming Spock is in it, then it could fit in just before he takes his yearlong leave, especially if we're free to shave a few weeks off the six-month interval.

Though personally I'd like to see (or write) more stories set in the period when Spock is on leave and Sulu is acting first officer. I mean, a year is a long time.

It's from the 2004 edition (I updated my earlier post with the full image ;)).

^If you mean the book cover, it's not the same image as the one in the SOTL calendar you posted. It's an almost identical angle on the ship, but from slightly higher and farther to port, so there's more visible separation between the bottom of the torpedo assembly and the curve of the engineering hull, and so that the gangway hatch on the saucer and the windows of the arboretum are more easily distinguished. Also the lighting is distinctly different.

Yup, that's what I mentioned earlier, there -- the 2004 calendar image is different from the new one.

Books with Sulu as the first office would be cool, but I'd really love to read more about Spock mentoring Saavik.

The cover is a picture I made for the "Ships of the Line" calendar 2013 - I think it is the july picture.

Okay, you guys had me pull it out of the shelf again.

It's "A Star To Steer Her By" by Tobias Richter, the July image from Star Trek Ships of the Line 2013. tobiasrichter already said it. ^

Personally, I like the idea of reusing SOTL images a lot! Those pictures are too awesome to not be re-featured, and I'd love to read stories revolving around those scenes, e.g. the encounter between a Columbia-class and Xindi-Reptilian vessles, or the battle with the lava-space-kraken.

I know this is illogical (just a matter of personal preference), but I am not especially interested in TOS stories without Spock (probably because I was a Spock fan first and a Star Trek fan second.

I wouldn't mind seeing more about Spock mentoring Saavik, but I'm not sure how you do that without repeating The Pandora Principle.

I would love more Sulu-as-first officer stories! Especially if they also develop on DRG's characterisation of him in Allegience in Exile, and your own work, Christopher.

Also something exploring Saavik and Spock would be nice too - whether in continuity or not, à la Crucible.

I like this cover. Anything that's not a floating head is great. I love ship shots - particularly if it isn't something we've seen a million times.
