I've finally pushed the button on Star Trek on Blu-ray

Amazon.com are selling the three series bundle for $59.99, which as it's Region Free is fine for me. It not only beats the price of the UK release, but the packaging quality as well. With customs and shipping it'll work out to around £52.

I never bought the series on DVD. I've been nursing 39 VHS tapes for the last 20-odd years, although I haven't watched a videotape of any sort in around 10. I bought most of them on sale, around £5 per tape... £200! Jeez!

CBS has been showing the remastered series here for as long as I've had satellite TV, never could get around to watching a whole episode, as the new effects shots and poor broadcast resolution, and the wrong aspect ratio puts me off. Looking forward to watching the original original series in HD.:)

That's a great deal. I got it for $90 something a year ago and considered that a good deal.

Great purchase. I bought mine as they came out and still regularly watch them. :techman:

Great timing -- was just on Trekcore today, and noticed the $59.99 Amazon sale going on (damn, that's a sweet price). As others have already said, you're gonna love these, whether you prefer the original '60s effects or the remastered ones.

Amazon also has the six original Star Trek films on blu-ray for $28.49 - that's $4.75 a movie!

Bill Hunt of The Digital Bits says this is a pretty good set for the extras - which is a surprise considering Paramount's track record. He says TWOK is the best looking of the bunch. Has anyone seen this transfer?

I think this set was released in 2009 - riding the coattails of the Abrams reboot.

That IS a great deal at $60. I think I paid around €50 for each season - but that still was absolutely worth it. I´m surprised however, that the third season box is just as slim in the US, as it is in the German release. I always assumed that was some sort of a money saving method reserved for the German/European market.

On a side note: I also highly recommend the 15-disc soundtrack set released by Lalalandrecords - it simply is the perfect companion to the complete show on Blu-ray, IMHO.

The Wrath of Khan looks great but was the only one remastered. I believe the other five films are simply the 1080i masters made for the DVD's. Though they still look good.

I thought TMP was remastered as well, but perhaps not a full "restoration" like with WoK.

Which maybe makes sense, since i think this is the first home video release of the theatrical cut (uhh, maybe the LD was too, i forget).

There was a laserdisc and VHS release of the original theatrical version.

I could not resist this deal either. Upgrade on it's way for my TOS and TOR-R DVD sets.

I also echo a love for the LLLR Soundtrack Collection. Absolutely stunning set.
