So I have FINALLY started watching Enterprise... love it so far!!

Doesn't every Trek need at least one episode where Our Heroes have reverted to gibbering animals?

I can't remember, did DS9 have one?

 

"Babel," one of its earliest episodes.

 

I applaud them trying to do something different in "Extinction" and going all-out in the process. I can see why some hate the episode, but I didn't mind it.

 

I don't think it was different, seemed like classic TNG era Trek to me.

Don't think it was horrible mind you, just more of the same. Right down to the stupid moral dilemma about the stupid virus or whatever.

 

That's the camp I'm in.

I think it gets more heat because it really didn't contribute to the Season 3 story line.

But, getting to see T'pol in white is never a bad thing.

 

Next episode "Rajiin":

Well, I was briefly worried this was going to be classic "beautiful woman comes onboard, all the males fall for her due to X pheromones or whatever" but luckily that didn't happen. What's interesting about this one is the good guys LOST - which has sort of happened before - and adds to the 'realism' of this Trek. You know, the Xindi come in and hopelessly outclass the crew (I loved the sequence of them boarding and taking back Rajiin; it was sort of shocking, but well staged), Rajiin escapes (with what she was after as well!), Tucker and T'Pol didn't sort of the trillium-D...

Season 3 of "Enterprise" is almost like "The Empire Strikes Back" of Trek. Our heroes are really fighting a losing battle here.

I feel maybe Rajiin could've been better cast. Or perhaps not. Just felt something was a little 'off' about her performance.

All in all though, a solid enough episode. I have no doubt things "will work out in the end", but Trek just got a lot darker.

We just watched these two last night... I forgot how much darker the show became. It is taking a bit getting used to again.
I do love the new look of the show aswell. I know that the differences aren't as big as the changes from season 3 to 4, but the little things make all the difference. Jolene's new wig, the new lights on the bridgeconsoles, the cinematogrophy feels slightly different. All in all, really looking forward to continuing seeing 3.

 

I loved all the blinky lights they added to the bridge in season 3, it greatly added to the atmosphere. They even made the TOS-style blinking coloured squares blink more aggressively.

 

Agree. I noticed that as well.

I mean, down here there are literally hundreds and thousands of blinking, beeping, and flashing lights, blinking and beeping and flashing - they're *flashing* and they're *beeping*. I can't stand it anymore! They're *blinking* and *beeping* and *flashing*!

I love every Star Trek series equally. Voyager has always been my favorite. I'm currently running DS9 since I have the full set. I had just finished watching Voyager (I have the full set of that too). Nothing they do bothers me. It's always been very good theater and very good television. The thing that I didn't like about Enterprise wasn't about the series itself. Rather, UPN's non-stop and very obnoxious graphics that they plastered all over the screen drove me away in the beginning of the second season. I waited for the full set to come out on DVD after that.

 

I'll have to admit. I think I enjoy rewatching Voyager the most. For all the horror stories I've heard about UPN and Enterprise, I'm glad I didn't see it until I bought the DVD's.

 

Next episode, "Impulse":

Well, one thing is for sure, no other Trek series can touch Enterprise when it comes to sinister/spooky/horror-type stories! And here is another one. Looks like my wish for the odd 'lighter' episode in season 3 may go unanswered... but that aside, this was a great episode. The scenes on the Vulcan ship were so well shot, and those zombie Vulcans really were pretty horrifying! Reed got to look cool and shoot guns, so he's happy, and the claustrophobic feeling of despair for the away team really came through.

Awful, you really feel compassion for them even as they are somehow creepier than human zombies.

I'm just into S2 for the first time. So far not impressed. I don't know whether it's the writing, the acting, or both that suck. I *really* wanted to like this series.

My first couple episodes were In a Mirror, Darkly Parts 1 & 2. I chose these eps because of the TOS throwback, but also because I believe any good show, regardless of where one jumps into it, should captivate the new viewer and make him want to start from the beginning. I loved the TOS-era sets, but I remember thinking the writing and acting were horrible. Even never having seen the Prime "good versions of these characters, I never bought their portrayal of their bad selves. I watched those online a few years ago and swore the series off. I'm only watching it now because the wife and I have gone thru every other episode of every other series. This is kinda the leftovers, and so far I gotta say I've enjoyed some fan-made Trek films better than this series.

I think the worst episode so far was the one where Reed and Tucker get stuck on the shuttle leaking air. I've never seen less-convincing acting. I never bought that they were so annoyed at each other, nor did I buy it when they bonded. I love the prequel series concept. There's a lot there to mine. But I can barely stomach this.

Here's to hoping it gets better as time goes on...

 

Zombie Vulcans are awesome. Loved "Impulse".

That anomaly-powered asteroid field was pretty cool, too.

 

Wow, we're in more or less the same position but couldn't disagree more on the quality of the series!

I do think early season 2 took a bit of a dip in quality compared to season 1 but overall I find the acting, writing and quality of the series very high.

Anyway, another episode last night: "Exile"....

A pretty transparent "Beauty and the Beast"-type tale. I like Hoshi, but she doesn't seem to get a decent storyline - even the episodes that focus on her aren't that great... including this one.

Somebody took the "Beauty and the Beast" comparison too far... the house Tarquin (Tarquin!?!) lives in is very gothic, very ornate, very...earth-like. Now, I know Trek has often had dubious "alien" planets and people that are basically Earth and human-like, but Enterprise kind of deviated from this and set higher expectations... to see such sloppy set design choices is a bit of a disappointment.

Also, it stretched credibility when Hoshi - alone and isolated on a planet with a dodgy alien that's already shown an unhealthy interest in her - decides to bring along her skimpiest nightie for the evening, AND WANDER AROUND THE HOUSE (and outside!) IN IT!!!

Now don't get me wrong, Hoshi in a nightie scores points with me, but this was just silly.

The plot itself was okay as far as it went, but I never really felt much threat from the alien, or sympathy, or...anything really. So the whole episode fell pretty flat.

Still, it ends with a bit of excitement - poor old Tarquin has identified a Xindi colony. At last! Here's hoping the next episode is good.

So far, though (and contrary, it seems, to most of fandom's opinion!) season 3 has been a bit of a downgrade in enjoyment from season 1-2.

 

Wow, I don't know what to tell you if you didn't like Shuttlepod One.

It's just like all the other series. You have to embrace the characters.
