I thought it was kind of silly the tape was in a clay thing that had to be broken. Like how did it get in there? However Beckett going badass and then arresting the asshole on TV was a very nice ending (hopefully) to the story. I'm kind of hoping they announce next season to be the last.
I thought too much was solved and hushed under the rug. I'd have thought three episodes here would have been better. I do hope they find a good way to revisit all of this next season.
Pretty good episode, but as they were taking him to the car I half expected him to get shot by some bigger, badder, yet unknown guy in the conspiracy. Next week's episode looks like it's returning to this year's standard quality with Beckett unable to get a wedding licence because she's still married to someone else!
The more I think about it, the more nonsensical the tape thing seems. If Joanna had this tape of Bracken confessing to murder, why didn't she expose him then? Why hide the tape?
That's why he has two professionals doing the dirty job for him, like wiping off his finger prints and such. Its worse than that. Braken mentioned killing Joanna Beckett in the tape itself. Meaning, she was already dead. So it has to be Montgomery who put the tape inside that elephant. Except, why would he put evidence in there and when did he do it?
Even so, it would've been far smarter to be on the other side of town with plenty of witnesses when it happened. No, that's not what Bracken said. He was talking to Montgomery and Smith about how he could kill anyone who got in his way, such as Joanna Beckett. To paraphrase, "I've had people killed before, so I could do it again, for instance, to that Beckett woman."
Something's wrong. Bracken was arrested for "conspiracy, fraud and the murder of my mother Joanna Beckett". At least, that's what Kate said when she arrested Bracken. Can she insert spurious charges like that?
People are arrested on suspicion of a charge, when there is probable cause to warrant an arrest -- motive, means, and opportunity. The tape is evidence that Bracken had a motive for the unsolved murder. Before, Beckett had evidence leading her to suspect Bracken of the murder, but she didn't have a solid piece of evidence linking him directly enough to allow bringing charges. The tape provides that incriminating evidence and thus is grounds for arrest. Now, it's possible that they won't be able to bring a court case against Bracken on that specific charge, not on that evidence alone, but it's enough for an arrest, and enough to get warrants for a deeper investigation of Bracken's home, office, possessions, files, etc. than they were able to make before, leading to more evidence of his involvement in that murder and others.
In any case, news footage of him being hauled off in conjunction with the tape (eventually) being released to the public has ended (probably) ended his political career. Maybe.
I've been trying to remember - anybody know if that was new footage of Capt. Montgomery talking to Cadet Kate or was it old? Regarding the elephants, I got the impression that the tape was in a compartment where the elephants came apart but I'd have to see it again to make sure. Jan
I'm sure it was new. It served to set up the tape revelation here, and did so in kind of an awkward way, so it's pretty clear it was created as part of this episode.
Yes, it was a new scene. Would have been better if they changed her hairstyle to season 1 with a wig but then again it was nice to see Montgomery again. Kate in action dealing with the assassins was awesome, just shows she's as dangerous as she is intelligent. As to the episode.. i don't know. The JB murder case that was so central to the first few seasons got resolved in a way that seemed so rushed. A single episode that presents a so far unmentioned smoking gun (at least i can't remember it being mentioned before) and the case is closed. I'd have liked for this to have a broader scope.. something like the last few episodes of season 4 when Castle learned that Beckett knew all along about his feelings but didn't act which put a serious wrench in their relationship only to explode in the season finale. That would have been more appropriate.. building it up over the least 3-5 episodes and have an explosive season finale for one of the main themes of the show. Well.. next week is the season finale that will include the wedding. Lighter fare and i hope it brings some of the fun and light heartedness into the show that i so love.
I was also expecting a bit more pomp, but I was satisfied with what we got. With the amount that this storyline has been padded out over the middle few seasons, I'm glad we finally got a resolution to the whole conspiracy. Well, at least until the trial next season when HRG is suddenly exonerated under mysterious circumstances and we start all over again. Or not. I'd be happy that the next season featured 11 episodes tracking down 3XK and finally putting him to rest. :P Mark
I missed most of the episode and haven't had a chance to see it again. So, do we think that 3XK was the hitter hired by Senator (cheerleader's dad)? Is (Grace Under Fire's ex-husband Jimmy) still alive? He knows a lot about the who and why. I miss a lot of the first run and catch up in reruns. Spoilers don't bother me a bit, because I'm getting old and don't remember a lot of them anyway.
I wonder... after next week, is there really going to be any reason not to end the show? I mean, they've solved Beckett's mom's murder, and after next week they'll (presumably) be married. Alexis has moved out and gone to college. Ryan is a husband and father. Even Gates has come to respect and accept Castle. So are there any unfulfilled goals left? I guess there's that new 3KX copycat/protege introduced a while back, and I guess maybe there's that annoying stuff with Castle's dad the superspy... but aside from that, has this show run its course?
The show has basically run its course for the entire season, they just refused to tie up the loose ends sooner. I guess (and hope) that season 7 will be the last, tie up the 3XK plot, let them enjoy married life for a while and get Beckett pregnant (maybe as a reveal during the wedding so she can give birth during the show finale and name her Johanna Beckett-Castle.. would fit with the sometimes sappy tone of the show ). I certainly don't want them to ride the show to death ala How i met your mother which has overstayed for at least 2-3 seasons. Bow out while there's still some remains of quality.
As far as I can tell, this season is pretty much like the last few. Starts off strong, coasts in the middle and ends strong. I'm really glad that the thread about Beckett's mother is finally over. I never considered it more than an ongoing thing, not any kind of main story. It was good for when they wanted to have drama rather than comedy. I have to admit that the previews for next week already annoyed me. The hitch to them getting hitched is just *so* overdone by other shows I hope they come up with something novel. Looking forward to seeing Eddie McClintock, though. Jan
I'd be ok with a shorted season of 10-12 episodes to wrap up 3XK and give us a glimpse of the future, but then get out. This show has had way to much filler for the past several years.
Was it eve supposed to be a heavy arc show? I never wanted that from it. For me it's light entertainment. Jan
