New Battlestar Galactica Movie

People here are overthinking it.

This is how it will be...

Humans create robots, robots kill humans, we watch the war. That's probably all that it will be with the BSG name slapped on it.

In the original Battlestar Galactica, humans didn't create the Cylons, did they?

Nope.

The original plan was to have them be reptilian creatures in body armor. Then somebody realized that the network censors would limit how many of them could be killed onscreen if they were living intelligent beings, so they were changed to be robots created by reptilian creatures.

I'm excited by the prospect of another incarnation of BSG. nuBSG started off brilliantly, and managed nearly two seasons of greatness before flaming out. The original was never really "great" but was tremendously fun. Caprica and Galactica 1980 both had some critical flaws, but also had some intriguing ideas. Suffice to say, I'm a fan of the franchise, even if a large amount of it isn't very good. But there's no reason to think that the concept can't be adapted for a big-budget film (or film series). A balance of the original series and the new would be something I'd love to see in the theater.

+1:p

As long as when they find Earth its over-run by damn dirty apes:guffaw:

My own theory was that the irradiated Earth later became Terra (TOS BSG) Caprica was rebuilt, and we get the TOS universe after NuBSG.

What would be nice would be if this movie shows our Earth becoming like Caprica--as in the last scene of NuBSG showing our Robots getting better.

You see the classic Galactica abandoned in space (post 1980) and presed into service in the new movie.

How about the first long-range probes out from Earth find the wrecked remnants of the BSG fleet, destroyed before they reach Earth but for a few half-crazed survivors who tell the story of murderous machines. That's the prologue...

Most people don't believe it, and long afterwards we follow a band of Earth humans looking for the Twelve Worlds -- and find the Cylons instead, who want to follow them home and finish the job.

I don't quite understand the opposition to a series of Galactica movies, originally before ABC and Universal turned it into a weekly series the show was meant to be a series of TV movies. And really IMO the first four two parters of the original series plus the pilot would make for a nice series of movies. And personally I'd like to see what can be now with some real money spent on the movies, like we're seeing with the MCU movies.

How I see it: Cylons attack and defeat the Colonies. Huge CG sequence with pretty explosions. Galactica and other surviving ships band together. Middle of movie just consists of snappy one-liners, and a romantic subplot while characters stoically accept they are they last of humanity. No one gets depressed over it like in nuBSG, but they also don't decide to shrug it off with a trip to the Space Casino either. Then a 40 minute action sequence in which Galactica fights the Cylons. Movie ends with Adama actor talking about Earth, as possible fodder for a sequel.

I did forget the romantic sub plot!

Probably a love triangle with two women and a guy.

And in the end, the two women give up on the guy and get involved with each other.

Actually, that would be a pretty original plot twist, by Hollywood standards. Probably won't happen then.

Enemy forces launch a huge attack on their homeworld so one large ship flees and winds up fighting against them. A grizzled old veteran is the Captain of the ship while the main character is a younger pilot. He gets into a love triangle with a female character serving in the military on the ship and a civilian woman.

Perhaps she's a young aspiring singer he rescued.

Just need to make the Battlestar Galactica capable of transforming into a giant robot with a large canon and it almost writes itself!

I have news, not a lot of people watched NuBSG or the original for that matter. The movie will seem new to many people.

If this movie does so well... Wouldn't it be amazing if it activated the benign resting audience that never gave either of the previous renditions a chance previously, and now need it, really, really need it?

I was thinking the two women would hook up, probably in the shower. One is gay and one is bi. The bi one can't admit her love for another female and gets back together with her ex boyfriend.

This way if there is a sequel they can do the "is she gay or not?" bullshit that Hollywood does.

There's some stuff about this in the deleted scenes. I can't remember which episode, but there's one such scene where Apollo is talking to Boxey and explaining how the original, reptilian Cylons were wiped out by the centurions.
That would be interesting to know which episode. :borg:

The conversation is in Part 2 of the two-part premiere, 'Saga Of A Star World', when Apollo and Boxey are on Carillion in a Landram headed towards the resort (in the movie, it's act 3, I think.)
