AMC's Turn

Did anyone watch the series premiere of AMC's Turn tonight? I decided to watch it since I've always loved historical genre movies (ex: Last of the Mohicans, Dances with Wolves, etc.). I thought that the series premiere was okay, but I couldn't help but think that I miss watching The Walking Dead on AMC on Sunday nights. :sigh:

I enjoyed it . . . and am curious to see where they go next.

I thought that the first 90-minute ep suffered a little from pilot-itis in that it took its time getting everything set up. Hopefully, things will pick up now that the spy ring is up and running at last.

Some friends of mine got cast as background actors on the show. I didn't spot them tonight, but I'm hoping to spot them in future eps.

I thought it was a decent start. Didn't blow me away or anything, but adequately established the major players and set a direction for what's to come that I'm interested in seeing again. You just know they're going to regret not killing Captain Snidely McEvilton when they had the chance.

LOL. I actually like that Captain. Very stereotypically British type of villainy.

And actually a pretty historical figure as well, reaching the rank of Colonel.. I agree that they're going to regret not offing him, even though that would fly in the face of history.

I thought the bit about Robert's Rangers was interesting as well.. He's one of those historical figures that is honored as well as reviled by American history...

Will be interesting to see how they Messr's Sam Culper (Sr. and Jr.) and the Culper Ring into the dramatic license of the show.

^ I didn't even catch his name during the show, and just figured him for a semi-historical villain conglomerated out of bits and pieces from different real life people to permit dramatic license. I had to look him up on IMDb. Indeed he was. Good catch.

That's cool! :techman:

Regarding everyone else's posts, it's hard to not be tempted to Google all of the characters that we've already been introduced to. I would love to read more about everything and the specific events surrounding the story, but if I do that then I will be reading spoilers!! But, I don't like spoilers!!! ;) Lol! Of course, they might take some "creative liberties" and change some things around.

BTW, I was wondering what British people think of this show (whether they've seen it or in regards to the subject matter in general). I've often wondered how British people now look at America's Revolutionary War and what they think of any of our TV or film portrayal of the events of the War (such as Turn or The Patriot).

Spotted one of them in a New York street scene last week . . .
