I wonder if they found a director.
I'll be shocked if the next film isn't another yarn about an Evil Bad Guy[TM] out for revenge.Millions upon millions have seen / enjoyed 2009 and STID, so the audience has been established, many of whom will be primed for something more ambitious from Trek rather than driven by the basis of revenge, explosions and destruction as those themes have already been explored.
Star Trek: Strange Fruit
Star Trek: Okay, Everybody Out of the Pool!
Star Trek: Dammit, Jim, I Told You Not to Eat That
Star Trek: Seeds of Destruction

To be fair, though, fighting Evil Bad Guys is just about all the Enterprise crew does in any Trek film.^ Well-played.

I think what makes it obvious that they'll ride this formula into the ground is that STiD was saved from failure at the box office by the international market, and what Hollywood keeps saying it "knows" about the international market is that it loves Earth-centered stories and prefers science fantasy to science fiction (two contentions that sound like focus group-derived pseudo-wisdom).

Just having a villain who isn't from another time and out for revenge would be a nice change of pace.
Of course I do.Just having a villain who isn't from another time and out for revenge would be a nice change of pace.
How about Black Omne then?
(I'm saying that with the safety that none of you know who that is)
