Expensive Trek Merchandise Purchase You Most Regret?

For me, it would have to be the 18-foot-long bus banner and 6x4 foot poster from "Nemesis" that I bought opening day from a local theater for something like $200+ dollars.

*Shakes head in shame...*:brickwall:

I still have both. If I thought anyone would actually want such and pay what I bought for them I'd sell, but I know that's a pipe-dream. So they'll sit in the corner with the dust for another 50 years and maybe then be worth something for being antiques. :p

Wowowowowie!!!...it is, indeed, a small world...I got the very same "Nemesis" huge banner from a theatre in Elgin! Il for nothing, and it collects dust...sorry, man

I would have to say my most regrettable purchase would be the laser-etched LED-lit block of acrylic with the Enterprise-D inside...the LED lights cut out about 2.8 seconds after I set it up...but the best part?

I bought 2 of them, sure and certain that they would be worth money...one to display, one to save...

 :guffaw: :rommie: :brickwall: :wah:

Not exactly a vote of confidence in a movie when the theatre wants to sell the promotional material on opening day

18 foot...wow. $200 doesn't seem too bad to me for those items. As long as you have room, keep 'em.

My biggest regret wasn't a huge amount of money luckily. It was about $100 USD spent on Star Trek Christmas tree ornaments last October for my family on ebay. Seller kept assuring me the items would arrive, and the post was often busy on his end around christmas. Of course they never have arrived, and the seller started ignoring me. Because the purchase was over 60 days ago I can't leave "negative feedback" to warn others, nor do I have any recourse to get my money back. Bye bye Ebay forever :)

You can report them to ebay. Go to the Resolution Centre.
Its worth a try on principle. I would. At least give them a hard time
Its the reason why you use ebay instead of going outside

When the Playmates Klingon Bird of Prey came out, I went to the Starlog Store in the local mall to buy it. I'd seen it advertised at Toys R Us for $15, but, hey, I was at the Starlog Store now, so I grabbed it.

As I signed the credit card receipt, I saw they were charging $50 for the frigging thing. :wtf:

It's currently in a box in my attic with the other Playmates toys that I no longer care about. :borg:

...Admiral Forbin, with respect, please do not EVER not care about your treasures...they are part of this thing we share...always treasure what you collected and why...even if you are " past" the moment...

Oh dear. :alienblush: About 5 or 6 years ago Mr WillsBabe and I had a cull of stuff. We threw out so much Trek stuff that we had accumulated over the years. As it was going into black plastic bags en route to the tip I kept thinking of all the foreign holidays we could have had if we hadn't spent so much money on memorabilia over the years. At the time I wanted it, but when I became less of an active fan that stuff just didn't appeal to me any more. I think the thing I regret buying the most was a piece of art of Data and the Borg Queen. It cost me £50 about 15 years ago at a time when I had very little money. I never even put it on the wall. I'm sure that there are all kinds of collectables and rare pieces in landfill now.

I've got two model kits under my bed wrapped in plastic. The Polar Lights 1/350 Enterprise-A and the 1/350 NX-01. Each cost me around $100. And I have another dozen or so unbuilt Star Trek model kits on a shelf in my closet. Probably another $200.
And all I can think is that I need the new Polar Lights 1/350 TOS Enterprise. Shoot me now.

Now that is the Spirit!... :techman:

I'm not sure that I seriously regret it, but I did buy a T-shirt at the concessions stands for the first Trek movie I saw opening night, which was The Final Frontier and, ah, well, there you go.

There's much I like in the movie, mind you, but I can't wear it without looking like a total hipster.

Yeah, I was pretty annoyed, so I did that. They said little can be done because it's outside their arbitrary time limit. Just encourages fraud - if you can string people along for 60 days you've got their money. I was suckered. Never again though ;)

Bought that Franklin Mint phaser years ago. I forgot how much I spent, but it looked so awful I returned it immediately.

Who's "we"?

Notice how he isn't the only one who regrets a trek purchase, which is the point of this thread.

He has a right not to care for his purchases. It doesn't mean he doesn't care for Trek.

As for me, probably the DS9 tech manual I had in high school. It wasn't as nifty as the Enterprise A tech manual or the TNG one. It helps I don't buy much Trek stuff :)

Oooh I buy a lot of stuff on ebay and must have been lucky so far. (and its mostly Star Trek stuff)
I'll watch out for the 60 day thing from now on.
Thanks for the warning but sorry it happened to you.

I was very much into the whole memorabilia thing back in the day, but of recent years, I only pick up home video releases, soundtracks and a few other bits and pieces - the odd quality model, magazines etc.

I also have a large collection of 10x8's personally signed by cast members from across the franchise.

As I've grown older, I've come to realise the most important thing is to be able to watch and enjoy the shows themselves. Over the years, I've been delighted as home video technology has improved and presented Trek in ever increasing clarity.

As far as regrets go, it's probably just a niggle when I consider the small fortune I've spent continually repurchasing episodes on VHS, LaserDisc, DVD, HD-DVD and now Blu-ray!
