First poster released: http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-news/veronica-mars-case-first-poster-reveal-194744577.html
I noticed the Buffyverse reference. I've never seen the Veronica Mars TV series but the preview's retrospectives have overtones that strongly remind me of the Joss Whedon series. Was VM mostly about teenage-to-adulthood issues put through the lens of crime-solving instead of daemon killing? Did it bring anything new to the table that would make it worth watching? Like Serenity in relation to Firefly, I'm wondering how accessible this movie will be to those of us who've never seen the original series.
This. In addition it tackles the "class war" issue which is only getting more relevant. Nepute where the show is set is a town devided between the super rich and the poor.
I think VM would be more open to new comers than Serenity. Serenity was only 6-8 months later when VM it's 10 years. But I hate Serenity as a Firefly continuation so.... The two minute thing explains the basics nicely.
It had a very Buffy-esque feel in a non-supernatural kind of way. Recurring roles for Allison Hannigan and Charisma Carpenter certainly didn't hurt*. Joss himself even made a cameo. *And the had-to-do-it scene where they meet was awesome. ETA: @ Aspo Zapruder-- I'll second what Timelord Victorious said about the class divide theme. It was an important recurring theme in the show and very relevant.
Here it is. Allyson out-"Cordelia"s Charisma, and they are obviously having a blast. "'Used Hard', meet 'Put Away Wet'" http://youtu.be/FZgFEuPuPxM
The first eight minutes. Happy that they are still using "We Used to be Friends" and sad that it's not the Dandy Warhols.
Nope, not gonna watch it, if I see the first eight minutes now I'm not sure i'm going to survive the next three days. There's going to be a Veronica Mars novel (The Thousand Dollar Tan Line) written by Rob Thomas that's taking place after the movie, it will be released in two weeks, this is the best month ever, the movie, a novel and I got my movie poster yesterday.
Since the movie was already released in my country, I have seen it today (thursday). I will put my two cents about it in spoiler code. Spoiler: Opinion about the movie First things first: The movie makes up for the horrible ending of season three. So I am happy about it and I don't regret supporting the Kickstarter campaigne. But (there is always a "but") the movie wasn't as thrilling and gripping as I had hoped. In my opinion it suffers from too many characters and too much fan service. I mean, I get it. The fans made the movie possible and the filmmakers wanted to give them as much Neptune as possible. So they tried to squeeze all the characters in (mostly during the highschool reunion). And while I originally thought the reunion was a good opportunity to do that, it slowed the movie down. Also, the story did not focus alone on Logan being a murder suspect, which adds to the feeling that it isn't as intense as it could have been. With other words, it has some lengths. However, the second part of the movie I liked better. Not to mention Veronica herself. She still is a very cool character. And a marshmallow .
Aw well, last time I will enter this thread then for a looooooong time. i don't think German theaters will EVER show it unless it becomes a box office juggernaught unxepectedly.

The script and vudu/flixster codes dropped to kickstarter backers a few hours ago. Watched a few minutes but the wife and I are going to a theater showing on Sunday.
^ I think the theater is the better choice. Not only is the screen bigger, many backers seem to have problems with Flixter. (Worked fine for me, only took an hour to set it up. I must say, Flixter is not exactly consumer-friendly). Have fun!
