I hope there's some kind of follow-up to the film. But the article I read says Garner is going to be in it, so I wonder if it's going to be set during the series.

That is disappointing. I found the first book to be really good, and if her adventures are to continue only through print, I'm fine with that too.
I haven't read the first yet, but my mom has it, I was going to buy the second for her for Christmas. She enjoyed it also.
I held off on buying the first book in print because I wanted to buy the audio book version read by Kristen Bell, but have yet to do so.
