Changing reviewer display name on ipad

Captain Kathryn

Commodore

I guess when I got my iPad I made my reviewer name (like when I leave iTunes reviews, the name that shows up) a really weird name because I was going to be reviewing apps that the company I work for makes. However, now I actually want to leave reviews with a name I actually like but cannot for the life of me figure out WHERE to change it.

Right now it shows as Luuuluuuuu7777 or some crap if I leave a review. Which is not my name it looks stupid. When I go to "My Apple ID" that crazy name isn't there. It has my real name. Yet when I leave a review it's the name I don't want to use.

Where the heck can I change my itunes review name? I don't use iTunes on my pc so it is not downloaded but I would think I should be able to change it on my iPad.

Anyone know???? It's really bugging me. :(

I'm not sure where it is on iPad (maybe it's not), but you can change the "nickname" associated with your account through iTunes. From the Home page of the iTunes Store you can select "Account" from the Quick Links on the right. Among the various settings is "Edit Nickname."

I'll dig around some more on the iPad and let you know if I find it. The account editing options on iPad appear to be much more limited.

I can't find any other access outside of the iTunes app (for Mac or Windows) that shows "Edit Nickname" as an option. I think I've tried all the various controls on the iPad, as well as the "iTunes Website" as you put it: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/account/

You may have to ask a "Genius" in one of the Apple stores, or post a question on one of the support forums. Good luck.

I assume you were using a pseudonym to write very honest reviews for these apps?

I was using a pseudonym because I was reviewing for the company I work for. Long story. But now I actually want to use my Apple ID to review stuff that I actually want to. lol

And "Adventure" is your real surname too, of course.

EDIT: Captain Kathryn, it's possible that all your old reviews will be updated to show your new nickname. (I don't know; I'm just guessing.) For example, on this BBS, changing your avatar or signature updates everywhere.

I imagine that's not a problem, as readers can spot a crank review no matter what name is given. Negative reviews may be legit if they politely point out the failings of an app. It's when one sees a single, crabby review amongst reams of praise for an app that one can suspect the grouch of having an axe to grind.

I didn't do any "crank reviews" lol. I don't know what that is even. I only gave a negative review once for a trivia app that was filled with an insane amount of typos. Every other review I have given was positive. So that is a non-issue.

Anyway those apps I reviewed for my company are long dead. So I don't care if it changes them all.

I just want to change my nickname so it doesn't say the stupid Luuuuluuuuu7777. O_O A host of a podcast read one of my positive reviews out loud on the air and had to say my name like that and it bothered me because for Trek I normally go by CaptainKathryn.

I didn't imagine you did, but I felt compelled to say something after what another poster implied.

My own alias was chosen for a few technical reasons. First of all, I live in one of only three countries left in the world that have not officially adopted the Metric (SI) system. (If Imperial units were all base 10, I might have been harder to win over. But Imperial units use every base imaginable, and some of the units are ambiguous: Is an ounce weight or volume? Then there are short tons and long tons—gimme a break.)

In my early days on the Web I also found that common names, characters, etc. were almost always "already in use" when registering for a new email account or discussion forum. So I decided to create an unusual spelling. At only six letters, it is also easy for friends to remember.

No but I'm not pseudonymously making reviews about TV, movies and books that I wrote under my real name.

I don't know that is what's happening here but it sounded really fishy to me. Maybe that's one too many trips to IMDB and Amazon product pages full of full star reviews gushing about a horrible product from people who only have ever made that one review.

EDIT: Of course like an idiot it just hit me that you might have wanted to use an alias to post honest reviews so your employer couldn't trace it back.

I apologize if I have cast aspersions on what was an innocent incident. Besides I'm not contributing to the actual question that was asked.

Um...I don't know what you think I said. My boss used to ask us to post a positive review on apps the company I used to work at made like probably 4-5 years ago that I don't even remember because we were all asked to whenever we released something.

Anyway that's not the point here. I just want to change my nickname. My company no longer makes apps and I don't even remember making that stupid name. It was before I even had my own ipad. I just want to leave positive reviews on podcasts I enjoy listening to under a nickname of my choice.

Not sure why this thread got derailed. I only want to change my personal nickname that is not related to anything to do my company anymore.
