I don't even know if they're making another Arkham game, but I feel like they are.

Based on very random rumors and Kevin Conroy letting slip a while back that he was working on a new Arkham game (NOT Arkham Origins), I just get the feeling that Rocksteady is secretly making a new game for XBoxONE and PS4.

It always seemed to be that the reason Origins was made by a different company was because it was being used a placeholder until the arrival of the new "major" Arkham game. It was basically something to tide us over while Rocksteady worked on their next installment.

Personally, I think there absolutely needs to be another game. Arkham City was fantastic, and parts of its story were clearly laying the groundwork for more to come.

I will not be touching said batman game at launch, bargian bin buy for me from now on if there are any more, Origins really put me off the games due to the amount of issues i had with it, and that they have said no more patching is on the way really tarnished them for me, yet they will quite happily work on more DLC, it's the only game i have on the Wii-u that actually crashes the console stone dead constantly.

Game is so well below the quality of the previous two games.

Well, Origins was made by an entirely different company than the first two games.

I personally didn't experience a single problem with Origins. All it did was give me just enough Batman to really want even more Batman.

Origins got a lot better on consoles once the patches rolled out, and it had easily the best storyline of the three games thus far, but the amount of recycled assets from Arkham City were really bothersome. A lot of the design felt incredibly lazy -- why, for example, is there a Batsignal in the skies of Gotham when the police still view Batman as a criminal vigilante? Did we really need to spend so much more time in the Sionis Steel Mill? Or, to drill down into the gameplay, in the open areas in Arkham Asylum -- and even in some parts of City -- I still felt like it was up to me how to approach it. Sure, I could go in fists flying, but what if I grapple up here and take this one guy out, leave a gel bomb over here, sneak up behind these two assholes, do a double takedown and drop a smoke bomb, disable the weapons cache, then grapple back over on that other ledge?

In Origins, it's all "here's where you sneak" and "here's where you beat the Christ out of everyone." There were so many rooms where there was just no fucking way to crouch and sneak your way through it, but rather there was One Way to beat the level. Oddly, despite being a locked-down environment, Asylum in many ways gave me more freedom, or at least the illusion of it, which is one of several reasons I still think it's the best game in the series despite the improvements made to the combat system in City. Origins is decent enough if you go in with low expectations and no desire to 100% the thing, but I'm much more interested in anything Rocksteady might have in store.

I totally agree, Timby, which is why I view Origins as more of a placeholder than anything. It gave me my Batman fix, and it had a great story, but it basically felt like a really big Arkham City expansion pack than its own game.

On PC the only bug problem I had with Origins was the disappearing Croc issue. That's it.

Other than that I thought it was the weakest of the 3 games but since the other two were so great that's not too much of a dig.

    Nailed it.

Although I had no glitch/bug issues in PS3, there was something missing from this version. The story was the best of the three, but I couldn't put my finger in why I didn't enjoy this game as much as the other two.

With that said, there were very few games I enjoyed more in 2013 than Origins. In still looking forward to whatever Rocksteady is doing.

Batman: Arkham Nation, follow Batman across the country as he seeks clues to the rumors that Ra's has resurrected the Joker. Every city allows you to play as Batman or another member of the Justice League. Yeah I would buy that, but then I just thought of it.

My favorite thing about the Arkham games is that there are no other superhero universes involved. I much prefer the Batman universe when it's self-contained. Batman, his sidekicks, and his villains are all interesting enough on their own without shoehorning Superman into the game.

The rumored name that I've seen floating around is "Arkham Knight."

Cadmus Labs, Metropolis, Toyman and Ferris Aircraft all exist in the Arkhamverse, so it's technically not self-contained. But those were all merely referenced, no featured in any significant way, so it still feels self-contained.

And that's fine. Batman still exists in the DC universe, so all of those things are obviously free to reference. I just would prefer the main story to be focused on Batman.

If someone wants to make a Justice League game, let them make a Justice League game. But I think it should be left out of the Arkham games.

Sorry for derailing this, but I have to say, that has to be the ugliest way imaginable to spell out "Xbox One".

    No offense BTW. Carry on.

Weren't their rumors that Arkham 3 was going to be Justice League-based, before we discovered it was a prequel?

    Re: Batman: Arkham 4

The initial rumor was that Arkham 3 was going to be developed by Rocksteady and would be a Silver Age-era story that depicted the first meeting between Batman and the Joker. We got the latter in Origins, but we clearly didn't get the Silver Age setting.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Justice League, or at least a few of its members, showed up in Arkham Whatever, particularly given that things like the Catwoman levels in City and the Deathstroke DLC in Origins clearly indicates that the dev teams are actively testing modifications to the combat and movement systems, but I don't think we'll get a full Justice League game. There are simply too many dynamics to cram into a single game. Even the first LEGO Batman had miserable driving sequences, and that was after Traveller's Tales had had multiple attempts at that sort of UX via the LEGO Star Wars games. Rocksteady has done great work with most aspects of the Arkham series, but I don't expect -- or want -- the studio to bite off more than it can chew.

Rocksteady should try n build a universe like the movies have and work towards a Justice League game. The next game I would love to see is Arrow :techman:

    Re: Batman: Arkham 4

I'm still holding out hope for an Arkham game based on the 'No Man's Land' story. AC sort of went there in microcosm, but I'd really like to see it done with the whole city.

It needn't even be exclusively a Batman game. Being to play as the likes of Nightwing, Robin, Az, Huntress, Catwoman & the Cassandra Cain Batgirl would certainly add some variety. Hell, they could even establish early on that Bats is missing, possibly dead (no, of course not *really* dead) and you swap in and out of a stable of those characters trying to fill the void and find out what happened.

Rocksteady showed off something to games journalists beginning of the month. That pretty much means we'll be seeing it sometime around this week.
