been thinking, what if theyd brought back Khan for Nemesis (which was TWOK in everything but name) via cloning and had him unleash hell for the federation (as he could have retained some memories from TWOK like Ripley in Alien Resurrection). They could have got some younger guy at the time like Antonio Banderus/Javier Barhem/Bencio Del Toro to portray him for the majority of the film kicking ass killing people etc (with a mystery thing for a while as to who he is before its revealed like STID), and then had Richardo Monalban in a cameo at the end as he ages up due to the cloning going wrong/accelerating him. Nimoy couldve even had a cameo too like in STID only hed be talking to Picard not nuSpock. maybe even got N Meyer to direct, or Frakes if not.

Cloning was the central element in Nemesis, as well as being central to Alien Resurrection in 97 and SW Ep II in 02, and went on to be used in the Augment 'Enterprise' 3 parter. it was a big deal in the late 90s/early so im surprised they never thought seriously about bringing back Treks most popular villain back then for a TNG film.

Plus they kept doing the khan like villain ever since TWOK so why not have just brought back the real deal back for Nemesis.

fans wouldve gone nuts to see Picard face off against Khan so itd had more of a chance of holding its own against LOTR & 007.

could have called it 'Star Trek: Vengeance' (as that was the original title for TWOK)

i guess IDW could do a Picard v Khan comic mini series (they do everything else so why not)

Not that any of the other villains were particularly Khan-like, but certainly on the TNG films, when giving interviews, the baddies were frequently proclaimed to be "the best/most dangerous/whatever villain since Khan". Except for First Contact, since the Borg pretty much sell themselves.

I was thinking they should have had the guts to say Malik from Enterprise was a younger clone of Khan Noonien Singh. But Nemesis with Khan? Nah.

(although I'm still waiting on Pocket Books' long ago promised "what if Khan were found and thawed by the TNG crew" Myriad Universes story)

The romulans should have been the bad guys in nemesis not a clone of Picard it would have been interesting because they had never been the bad guys in a star trek movie.

I remember reading in an old magazine (Starlog, or perhaps the official Next Gen mag?) an article by a writer who pitched a return-of-Khan episode for TNG. Apparently it was very well received, but Ricardo Montalban could not be persuaded to appear, and the idea was dropped.

As a clone? How else would they have done it?

I really can't imagine WHY Khan would have a beef with the Federation.

    Besides, he is dead.

Also, and of course, if Khan almost defeated Kirk, he would make short work of Picard.

If it's the one I heard about (many a year ago), it was suppose to be an effect of the Genesis Device/Wave. Can't recall the details beyond the "If Genesis brought Spock back, why not Khan" being the alleged pitch.

Creative for a fan, bad for a screenwriter. I think this obsession to fix Nemesis. It can't be done. It has good points and bad. Let's just let sleeping dogs lie.

TWOK should have been the final appearance of Khan. Still the best.

Neither good actors nor good characters can make up for bad writing. We would have gotten an abomination, which we would have panned and hated even more than the movie as it is (which we all hate... yet own)

i guess for a TNG 2parter or Nemesis it couldve been something like an augment worshipping nut (like Arik Soong but not him) harnessing something like Khans DNA & maybe something to do with Genesis and bringing him back...then things get out of control and khan goes full wrath of khan

This. The Wrath of Khan took an actor best known for starring in one of the worst television shows ever made and selling Chryslers on the basis of "rich Corinthian leather" and gave him such great material (and a license to chew scenery like a teething sehlat cub) that his villainy has never been matched. The Search for Spock, while hardly a great film, re-defined the Klingons on the strength of a performance from an actor best known as a lovable acid casualty cab driver. Generations, by contrast, couldn't make a compelling villain out of the actor who personified one of SF's greatest cinematic monsters and Insurrection drowned Amadeus's Salieri under bad makeup, bad dialogue and nonsensical motivation. Tom Hardy thought his career was over before it started when Nemesis tanked. A decade later, he's one of Hollywood's hottest actors.

It should be noted, however, that the largely unknown Alice Krige does such a good job as the Borg Queen that she almost makes the violence the idea of a consciously malevolent dominatrix did to the more chilling idea of a relentless, faceless enemy that couldn't comprehend why its attempts "to improve quality of life for all species" were being so strenuously resisted.

I guess what I'm saying is that the TNG movies kinda suck all around.

Which was proven with Nemesis. Hardy is a better actor than Montalban was.
