    Hi all,
I am currently halfway through S5 (just saw "Sam, Interrupted"). Fans I respect have told me that the series simply isn't very good post-S5. I'm wondering how fans of the series who have seen it all of the way through feel about it post-S5?

I have to hand it to the lead actors for still seeming committed to the characters at least up to the fifth season... I was sorely disappointed at the killing off of the female hunter bar-owner lady and her daughter--why didn't they develop their characters? I do like the daring of the show--what an arc, Lucifer as the big bad...Has Kripke ever revealed himself as a fan of Milton's "Paradise Lost"?

    S6: it's a decent follow-up
S7: I almost stopped watching the series. it really lost it.
    S8: got interesting again.
S9: solid season premise so far.

But I would say S3-5 was the highpoint.

Season 7 is pretty terrible, but I didn't mind Season 6 or 8. Haven't seen any of Season 9, but I'm excited to watch it based on the way that Season 8 ended.

I didn't really start watching it regularly until season 6, but even without the earlier seasons to compare it too, I thought Season 7 wasn't very good. It wasn't bad enough for me to stop watching, but it definitely wasn't as good as the seasons before or after.

Pretty much agreed with the above. Biggest complaint about Season Six was too many plots that resolved too abruptly. Season Seven did introduce one of my favorite recurring characters. I need to catch up with Nine.

Season seven, for the most part, was unsuccessful. It was clear what they were attempting, but the show's creators just weren't able to satisfy the build-up or premises they began.

That being said, however, the seventh did contain 2 massive high points:

+The introduction of Felicia Day's Charlie

+One of the best episodes of the series, IMO, "Death's Door."

Yeah, I pretty much agree with the consensus. Season Six is still pretty decent, while Season Seven wasn't all that great (though it had its moments). But Season Eight was a really nice return to form and I've enjoyed Season Nine so far, too.

Forgot what thread I was viewing and for a few confused moments I thought this was a DS9 thread. :)

I've only seen S1-2 and the first episode of S3 myself. Not sure what happened there, maybe it was the abrupt change in premise. I mean to get back to it at some point.

Agreed, and personally I also really liked (and I think OP will too given one of his comments)

the brief return of Jo. While she had a hell of an exit it was a very lovely coda after I was sad she only got name-dropped in Ellen's AU return.

Garth getting more focus was a lot of fun too, IMO.

Thanks for all of these helpful insights, everyone. Looks like I have at least S6 to look forward, and maybe further seasons beyond it.

Season 7 tends to spin its wheels for a long time but has the best, most gut-wrenching episode of the series, episode 10. I cried like a baby.

I really enjoyed seasons 2-5. I'm only on Season 8, but 6 and 7 were just overall bad.

    Indeed, agreeing person agrees.

I watched 1 to 5 as they aired, but from 6 onwards I was no longer in a place that actually broadcast them regularly so I had to wait for the DVD sets.

Season 6 was good, a bit confusing in some spots when it seems like there's lots of contradictory stuff going on, but it all makes sense in the end and in retrospect is actually a clever and logical follow up to the events of season 5.

Season 7 had some great episodes but the overall arc wasn't as strong. You might compare it to Buffy s4 in that way.

Only just got season 8 for Xmas and haven't had time to crack into it yet.
