A&E Taking Heat For Suspending 'Duck Dynasty's' Phil Robertson

No, I was in favor of the founders use of slavery. As a matter of fact, slavery was beneficial to America's growth back then since there wasn't industrialization on farms, lumber businesses, etc.

I'm sure you could find a white supremacist forum where that kind of crap would be quite welcome. But for me on this board, your tenuous grasp on relevance has come to an end.

What the hell are you talking about? Jesus had no influence over the status of slaves in the Roman empire. If God objected to slavery he should have gotten it on the record, because it's not in the Bible.

By changing the heart of man. The teachings of Christ and his salvation changes hearts, and that changes slavery.

What you said was that Jesus was known for freeing slaves, but there is no historical record of it, nor is it mentioned in the Bible.

As far as changing the heart of man, how long did that take regarding slavery? Over a thousand years, at best. Tough luck for the folks enslaved in the meantime, but oh well.

So, in summary: follow Christ's teachings and be a moral person, but think that human slave labor to grow cotton in 18th and 19th century America was perfectly acceptable and there was nothing wrong with one person with a whip and a gun owning other people and mistreating them like a herd of inferior cattle.

Just checking.

Meh. Jews were slaves, Christians were slaves, the Romans could barely tell the difference. Why wouldn't they work towards the better rights of slaves if it they who were predominately the slaves?

Alternatively, consideirng how Romans dealt with slave uprisings, the Jews, and then Christains, for their own protection would want to create a religion that didn't rock the boat, otherwise it's thousands of random bystanders crucified to be made an example of for any one that didn't like how the world works.

The Bible condoned slavery becuase no one could fight Rome.

Rome was too big to fail.

Anything in the old testament that Jesus did not change, still stands as what God originally said.

Therefore, God stating that homosexuality is a sin in the old testament, stands, Jesus did not change that.

Now maybe I'm reading this wrong, but here Jesus seems to say that all the laws still count and you'd better follow them, even the little ones.

Jesus said:
The Fulfillment of the Law

17“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

And here we go. Douglas County Sheriff tells A&E they aren't welcome anymore.

Apparently they film a series there.

In wake of 'Duck Dynasty' star suspension, Sheriff Miller tells A&E they are not welcome
In wake of 'Duck Dynasty' star suspension, Sheriff Miller tells A&E they are not welcome - Douglas County Sentinel: Local News

The suspension of “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson by the A&E Network after making controversial remarks in GQ magazine regarding homosexuality has been called a business decision. But now Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller is making a business decision of his own.

Miller announced on his personal Facebook page Friday night that A&E would no longer be welcomed to film or produce any of its programs or series with the help of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office or its facilities.

"A&E has suspended Phil Robertson for talking about his conservative Christian beliefs," Miller wrote." None of us are without sin and I am not judging anyone. I am sure A&E made what they believe is a good business decision. Many people who disagree with A&E might choose to remain silent and there was a time when I might have done the same, but no longer. In my mind the punishment is unreasonable.

"I know it will not matter to A&E, but it will make me feel better. A&E has produced more than a half dozen programs with the assistance of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. They will not do any more with my assistance while I am sheriff. It is time for someone other than Hollywood and the news media to stand up for what is right!"

Miller said that was the netwok's prerogative, but he said he had to do what he thought was right to show how he feels.

"I guess I need to learn to keep my mouth shut too," Miller said in a phone interview Friday night. "But they are punishing a man for being honest and answering a question that he was asked. When he answered and gave his understanding, pulling from his Christian beliefs, this happens. It's not right and I had to say something about it.

"I don't hate anybody and you can ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you the same thing. But where we are in this country now, where you are punished for simply saying what your understanding of your Christian beliefs are is just too much for me."

Over the years A&E has filmed several shows centered here including most recently "Beyond Scared Straight," which featured the M.A.C.E. program sponsored by the DCSO.

Not sure if using a government agency to enforce your personal beliefs is a good idea. I wonder how other county officials feel about the potential loss of revenue.

@Myk: Please excuse the excessive length of this quote but I think it sums up my faith nicely. It's Romans 3:20-24. I've put certain parts in boldface that I thought are extra relevant:

Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God's sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin. But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the law and prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

As for Phil Robertson: he seems to be the embodiment of verses 13 and 14 of that same chapter.

Their throats are open graves, their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips, their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.

As for the sheriff: Is he violating any law by refusing permission for the show to film in his jurisdiction? I don't know if he is. I'm not saying this is a good decision - probably is not - but it'll all come out in the wash. If this generates too much blowback, that sheriff will also lose his job, I'd think.

"Yikes...and away!"

All that understanding comes later, first comes the acceptance of Jesus as savior. If you are truly interested in hearing about the hope and salvation Jesus can provide from sin, I can communicate with you through PM or otherwise. :)

I love you all, Merry Christmas
Happy Thankshanukwanzmas to you to.

Jesus crawled out of Mary with a halo surrounding his head and a supernova pointing to his afterbirth. Kings travelled for thousands of miles to pay sufferance. Anyone looked at him, they said "Fuck me, it's god. That fucking kid is god."

That's the story.

Skip ahead 33 years and he's nailed to a cross, crowned with a thorny coronet by diligent legionaries... Who think that he's just some filthy barbarian thief who deserves what he gets.

Notice a difference there?

Either Jesus was getting better at hiding his divinity as time went by or from day one on Earth he was losing his powers.

Dude was on a clock.

Not a clock to save us, but a clock from when he can't be of any use to us no more.

By 35 Jesus would have been completely mortal.

If the Romans had come for him when he was 25, would he have turned them into salt?

He certainly could have.

Running out of juice would certainly explain why he didn't annihilate them at 33.

Maybe God in Heaven didn't trust God on Earth later on to do the right thing, which is why there was a predisposed time limit?

It's also possible that he needed power left over still to rise back up to heaven, so God on Earth fixed his martyrdom up all by himself so that he wouldn't be trapped on Earth until everyone else got let up with revelations.

It's just so dodgy.

I simply believe that one should have the freedom to express their religious views without punishment. Whether you agree with it or not. I believe this for all religions.

Religious Freedom is what this country was founded on.

You are welcome to disagree with me. I wont' punish you for it :p

If you just left it at that, you'd be fine and we would have no quarrel. But you also seem to believe that you should be able to impose this fanatical religious belief on to others who may not share it.

First of all, no one is punishing you. People might disagree with you, but nobody is punishing you. Let's get off that dead horse now.

Secondly: You don't like gay marriage? Don't get a gay marriage. You think sex between two men or two women is a sin? Great! Don't do it!

Leave everyone else the fuck alone though, and keep your personal beliefs to yourself.

Because that's precisely who they belong to - just you.

No one person or group or government should have the right to impose its belief system onto any individual if they do not share it. You don't get to hide behind your faith as a shield when you try to justify your inane attempt to usurp the rights of others.

Freedom of religion doesn't just apply to you, Brent. Nor does it just mean that you are free to practice whatever faith floats your boat. It also means that the rest of us have the right to choose what we believe and what faith we will practice. Just because you have chosen a certain path of ideaological beliefs (however backward they may be) it does not follow that you (or anyone else) have the right to dictate to others that they must abide by it. That's not what freedom of religion was about when it was established here.

This country was founded on religious freedom, yes. But it was also done so that those founders would be free of the persecution they faced in Europe because of their beliefs.

Now, here we are, nearly 250 years later, what what's happening? Oh right - you're hiding behind your Bible to justify subjugating a group of people, the majority of whom you will likely never, ever meet or interact with.

I'd laugh if the similarities weren't so disgusting.

I love you all, Merry Christmas

Even the gays?

How can you possibly be against a private corporation making a decision on an issue while at the same time be for a governmental entity making an exclusionary decision on the same issue?

And what is this *Constitution* that you pretend to care about?
