I don't think there's any kind of guide line that our favorite couples have to be canon couples.
We could maybe start a seperate thread for slash. On one hand I don't want to be shuffled off to a Star Trek gay ghetto, but besides a slash specific thread hopefully being a safer place for that topic without having to listen to bigots and haters, it also could be a place to discuss slash fan fiction and art, etc, which would potentially be off topic here.

No this thread is fine. Favorite couples, that will always include couples we never saw. J/C is a lot of people's favorite couple but they never got that onscreen kiss either.

Don't worry, I'll keep it all above waist...I mean, above board.That infamous conversation between Miles and Julian inside Sloane's head blew me away with the slashiness the first time I saw it. Poor Julian - Miles just couldn't admit he liked him more than Keiko!
That was hilarious and deliberately played up I think by the actors. That was such a great bromance, so natural and amusing with the darts, the drinking, the alamo.
Absolutely: it certainly seemed through the acting choice that Miles' protests were just 'for the record'.
Reading the Turnabout Intruder thread now reminded me of how indredibly couple-y the mind meld scene between Spock and 'Janice' played out. He holds his hand for goodness sake

Garek was really in love with Julian, that's pretty much canon. It's pretty crappy how tptb paniced at their chemistry and stopped letting them share scenes.
I'm watching Amok Time - paused right now - and it's a lot gayer than I remembered.
The buff Vulcan guard, or whatever he was, with the sword, is wearing this weird, really sexy outfit that exposes his muscular chest, and then in the fight between Kirk and Spock, Spock cuts Kirk so his chest is exposed too. Kirk gets a lot of ripped shirts over the years, but this one may the best, and then there's all the close body contact while Spock is in heat...

This. It's all about their expressions. But you can choose to read that into it or not. I choose to. ^_^To answer the question about the scene above - for me it's how Kirk *really* gets into it when he thinks it's Spock, but immediately grows uncomfortable when he realises it's the yeoman who's actually digging in. And that little shared look between Spock and Kirk - so slashy
And that's why I was sort of unhappy about that episode in which Garak keeps staring at Ziyal, and then everything after that. In my mind, Garak only had eyes for Bashir (and they would've made a much cuter couple).
Amok time is a fun episode. Lots of Kirk and Spock rolling around on the ground with their arms around each other. ^_^ That's another reason I was trying to read up on pon farr though, that episode. For the longest time I couldn't understand how Spock is normal after that, since he didn't.. consummate his relationship with T'Pring due to her poor taste in men. But apparently fighting gets rid of the blood fever, too.
But yeah, that may well be the best Kirk shirt-rip. ^_^

Oh Garek and Julian are adorable. I like Ziyal, but I found Garek's interest in her to be kind of creepy, their chemistry just was all wrong.
Yeah, somehow the fight is supposed to resolve the pon farr. I've read suggestions though that the pon farr came to a uh, different climax while Spock was wrestling around on top of Kirk.

Garak is looking for redemption in Ziyal, if someone so sweet and innocent can love him he must be okay right?

This. I mean the Ziyal thing is obviously only put there because of how Garak and Dukat hate each other, and apaprently they wanted to erase anything potentially gay-seeming between Garak and Bashir, which was disappointing.
And after that one episode where he's creepily staring at her the whole time, it's like he's not even interested anymore; after that, it seems rather one-sided. She likes him. He just sort of tolerates it because he probably doesn't get a lot of good looking young cardassian women hanging all over him on DS9. whereas with Julian, he actually seemed interested. I mean, he does seem to like her, but not in the same way to the same extent that she likes him, it seems.
Yeah, I guess I can see that. But on the other hand, it is also why I think they are mismatched.
That was my first thought, yeah... But in a couple of different sources I've read that pon farr can be resolved in 3 ways: the regular consummating the relationship way; fighting; and intense meditation (which is supposed to not work most of the time and is a last resort).
Also, holograms.
But Tuvok was a lot older and knew what to expect, had years of experience with meditation etc.. Holograms would not have worked as well for a younger first time pon farr I don't think.

I was happy when I read an interview with Siddig and he said they actually have gone out to a bar or something and just had fun. They did not, however, play darts. But if I recall correctly they have gone out drinking just to shoot the shit.
But yeah definitely my second fave bromance of Trek. Second to K/S.
Ah, yes, I forgot about holograms. But I agree, I would guess it wouldn't work for a young, first time pon farr.
Would have been funny to see Vorik with a hologram of B'Elanna.
Sounds likely to me, yeah. If you could just meditate every time, it sure would take away its usefulness as a plot device, also.
