The "Y2K Bug" was a very real computer issue which many businesses and governments took proactive measures to correct (and others failed to), and which the media ignorantly spread over-dramatic misinformation about. Also, 68% of climate studies in the 60s and 70s predicted warming and only 10% predicted cooling, with vastly less than that predicting anything as dramatic as a new ice age. Keep trying, though. I remember in the 80's they were predicting that the Greenhouse Effect (which no one mentions any more, guess it is renamed) was going to make everything WET, coastal areas would flood, there would be sooo much rain.. which was potentially the best news ever for Australia.

No doubt about the climate change. But there is no problem with it. The only problem is that people have a major problem with change. 10,000 years ago, the place I'm currently sitting at was covered by a glacier. Had our current society existed back then... oh boy, the panic! Rescue that glacier, otherwise humanity will be doomed! Judt accept it, stop panicking and move on. Any countermeasures to man-made warming are likely to backfire due to overcompensation. The thought of being able to control it is nuts. The only thing we should do is to reduce the influence (negative and positive) as best as possible, and start adapting, just as we always have before we turned into inflexible pricks, err, bricks.
We have seen massive storms in the last 10 years, ones that shatter records in both cost of damages (Sandy, Katrina, Haiyan) and its size and strength.
