Hi all, so the 1986 film Transformers is my favourite animated movie ever. I also really love the TV show. G1 only, of course.

In the movie, I love the scene where Megatron has been beaten down and says "Don't leave me Soundwave" and Soundwave takes him to safety with "As you command Megatron" even though he could have just ditched the wrecked Megatron. I really love this scene.

Also, another favorite scene of mine from the TV show was the episode 'The Core' from season 2. Towards the end of the episode, the Constructicons are about to merge to Devastator when one of them says "Look guys, if we don't make it... It's been great being part of the team." I really love this line.

Are there any episodes with scenes similar to these two? What are your favourite Transformer G1 moments?

I've been looking through the episode guide on Wiki, but it's tough to tell what happens in an episode from the blurb.

My favorites go all the way back to the first mini, when Optimus Prime was less "elder statesman" and more "John Wayne." My absolute favorite quote comes when the Autobots have the Decepticons cornered at Sherman Dam and Optimus calls out: "Stick it in neutral, Megatron! Yer not goin' anywhere!" :D

Berger's awesomely OTT hammy line from Megatron's Master Plan: "It is over. I saw the Autobot ship, like a silver bullet, streaking toward the Sun, and it collided... collided with destiny!! I saw the end. They died in a cosmic funeral pyre!"

It's the way he says it...

Actually, Megatron's Master Plan has lots of cool scenes, from the Decepticons in fake Autobot shells, to Megatron's "Save the Humans" line (it sounds like he really can't say it with a straight face), Starscream & the Seeker jets totally trashing the human Air Force armada, Rumble dancing in the disco, etc, etc.

Oh, I forgot to say that I love the pop-culture references as well. Like "Come on down, Auto-Brat" from Blitzwing when they first attack autobot city. Are there many others in the show?

And Starscream shooting the entire horn section just to knock off the monotonous fanfare? Priceless!

I find it highly amusing that Berger, a political candidate, seems to have his own private army in that episode (and refers to them as such). There are some amusing WTF? moments if you think about them.

Does anyone if Galvatron was really just Megatron in a different outfit? He seemed to have a different personality to Megatron, too.

Can't remember the details but there was an episode where Star Scream finds his old partner? friend? Skyfire on Earth. It was a step above the usual drek the show had for scripts.

Megatron IS Galvatron. Galvatron is just mentally unstable. they even have a whole episode devoted to his mental treatment.

I personally loved the season 3 episode "Dark Awakening". It was awesome as a kid seeing Optimus come back, even if he was zombie-Optimus.

Likewise, "The Return of Optimus Prime" was great, too.

He usually is a more advanced incarnation of Megatron, although the exact circumstances vary. The notable exception is the IDW continuity, where they're completely separate and unrelated characters (as are Bumblebee and Goldbug). The IDW Galvatron is similar to his counterparts in many other respects, but doesn't seem to have the mental issues that animated Galvatron did. The Marvel comics are sort of an odd duck, in that at least two separate Galvatrons appeared. Both of them seem to have followed how Megatron became Galvatron in the cartoon via Unicron, but the Marvel continuity didn't otherwise acknowledge the movie events as part of the comic continuity.

Confused yet? The Marvel Galvatrons seemed to be the only versions where his (their?) power was tied somehow into Unicron, and was therefore considerably more powerful than the average Transformer.

    Alright, thanks.

I still love the "Come on down Auto-brat" because of it's link to The Price is Right. Are there any others?

I too love the 1986 film - it was the first film I ever went to see more than once, and I still have the soundtrack album on tape - but I'm not that familiar with the TV show. It was all about the comics for me. Mostly the UK ones, but they occasionally brought in some of the US stories as well.

And I clearly remember, from the few times I did catch the TV show, how much more intelligent and literate the comics seemed in comparison. The TV show seemed so dumbed down, so explosions-and-one-liners, whereas the comics managed to create some really great, well-told, clever stories. Much like Trek Lit has done with some of the less brilliant Trek TV.

Of course, I was about 11 at the time so one's ability to appreciate great literature is somewhat limited.

I adored Target 2006, the comics' movie tie-in. It set off a whole series of multi-part stories that spread out over the years from that point - Wanted Dead or Alive, The Legacy of Unicron, Space Pirates, Time Wars... Having never seen much of the TV show, I tend to think of the comics' versions of the various stories as the 'real' versions.

By far the best thread ever brought up by ReadyandWilling. Transformers was the greatest cartoon show ever. Period. G.i. Joe was second.

The first reason was that every character had distinct personalities. They also strived to give even third-tier characters their own episode, or, at least, their own episode sub-plot. I also loved the animation. I'll take less stylized drawings,, and making figures drawn to proportion any day over smoothness.

I loved the "Optimus Prime and John Wayne" bit mentioned above. Their fight (featuring the glowing weapons) atop the the damn was so memorable. Their entire exchange was classic. I give credit to the Michael Bay and his writers for making the dam important to his mythos of Transformers. It really is a sweet callback.

Not only did Optimus Prime have a bit more of an edge to him, but he was also more heroic than ever. I loved when he tried to pull the metal remains form the oil rig away to save the humans. Or, better yet: when he took a rocket pack so he could stop Megatron 's ship from reaching space. It affected me when they shot him down. It made the hero of the series even more special to me, that he couldn't always save the day, despite his best effort. He was as noble as Superman, and he was larger than life, but he was also very limited.

Oh yes, Dark Awakening was fantastic.

I love Starcream, and his creation of the Combaticons!

I loved Shockwave, guarding Cybertron after many years. They gave him a lot of good scenes when Spike, Swoop, and Carly were on Cybertron.

Loved the episode with the asteroid, the Dinobots, and Chip, the kid in the wheelchair.

Though Alita One was a fantastic character, the female equal to Prime himself. But I'm partial to Arcee. She;s a decent fighter for the most part, but she is truly a "delicate warrior" (as her recent independent figure says) but is was her delicacy that made her interesting. I remember really being affected when she got hurt, believe it or not. When she was shot in the knee in "Dark Awakening" my the neighbor kid next to me who was a little younger) asked "wait, is she crying?" and I kind of just said, "yeah it sounds like she is." I still believe that despite the fact that I've watched the episode recently and it sounds like shes trying not to cry. They also made me care about her when she was saved by Daniel in the Headmaster episode and then he decided to become her head.
