The Night Of The Doctor

I hope Paul sat home today having his birthday cake and realizing how his few minutes of "WHO time" made so many fans shocked and ecstatic and how much internet bandwidth today was of him. Happy Birthday Paul, thanks for the present! (and thanks to Moffat too).

Okay, so let's recap:
We know:
The Doctor lies
River lies
Moffat lies
McGann lies

Does Eccleston?

So far, they're all proving the other doctor, House right. Will it continue?

^ I was just thinking that. Will Eccleston make an appearance. After the disappointing way his character was shafted in Thor 2. I sure hope so.

Unless, the War Doctor, because he is such an aberration... What if the Hurt Doctor is a scab... He's just there while 8 is healing up, and once Eight Point Five tries to regenerate... He turns back into 8.

There's certain writers, actors, creators, that I expect to give me non-answers, or statements with 5 different answers to keep secrets, and those I expect to to tell me anything to keep a secret and those that won't play at all. I would expect Eccelston to avoid the question if he was involved and I might have hope of Eccelston giving me an answer that could be taken 5 different ways, but, Eccelston outright denying something he's actually involved in, that would really take me aback...:(

I don't know the exact statements but did McGann word it deviously at all? Like technically with this being a short he could say he wasn't part of the show and not be untruthful.

What? I get sick, don't check the forums for two days, and PAUL FUCKING MCGANN COMES BACK?

Sweet mother of mercy! That was great! Had an old-Who feel to it, too. Now....who thinks they kept someone else under wraps too?

I didn't think they'd get someone cool to replace Matt Smith and they got Peter Capaldi.
I didn't think we'd ever see another lost episode and we got two stories.
I didn't think we'd ever see Paul McGann again and we did.

So I think I will abstain from thinking from now on.

If they are able to get Eccleston to appear in the 50th anniversary and kept that under wraps, I think I will understand the glee this thread was spewing out today. I'm so happy for you guys, especially considering what I would think is disappointment with the 50th anniversary being more like the 8th anniversary. (Thinking from the point of view of a long time Doctor Who Fan)

I know we've beaten the topic to death so I won't pose in the form of a question, but if they did the same thing with Eccleston as they just did for McGann, I will be extremely impressed and will love the 50th anniversary special.

I want to see that female character again (She was cute).

You mean Cass? Considering that she died two minutes after meeting the Doctor, I don't see that happening.

That's what Prequels are for. :)

And what - she's going to meet the Seventh Doctor? The Ninth Doctor? She met the Doctor, hated him for being a Time Lord, and was glad he was going to die with her. I guess I'm just not imaginative enough to figure out how Cass could be brought back in a prequel episode where she interacts with the Doctor. On the other hand, I can easily imagine the producers bringing the actress back as a different character. It worked for Colin Baker, Freema Agyeman, Karen Gillian, Eve Myles, and Peter Capaldi, after all, just to name a few.

I can easily see the Hurt Doctor being convinced by the events of the anniversary special to put away the Warrior (or whatever he calls himself) and once again take up the mantle of the Doctor. That could mean three regenerations in three consecutive episodes.

I wonder... Does this retcon change the way we see "Rose", the episode? When the Doctor says "I'm the Doctor, by the way", is he reclaiming the title for the first time in decades?

Wow...just wow! "Not the doctor you expected"...indeed! Would that count as breaking the fourth wall? Btw..was the fourth wall ever broken before in Doctor Who?

The fourth wall was first broken by William Hartnell in "The Dalek's Master Plan", when he faced the camera and told us "Incidentally, a happy Christmas to all of you at home!"

The last time it was broken, IIRC, was in "Asylum of the Daleks", when Oswin Oswald told us to remember her.

It is possible that Eccleston isn't lying but we'll still get a regeneration into nine.
Eccleston could be shown for a second after Hurt regenerates using existing stills\footage, in the same way Hurt was in the minisode using an old image (of his younger self).
It would be kind of disappointing (I would rather hold off for the chance to have him be fully on board), but it's possible.

On a different note. It's odd how eleven seemed angry at Hurt doctor for breaking the promise, when it was eight's conscious decision.

"Will it Hurt?"

Heh heh heh heh heh

Oh my, that went right over my head till you said that :guffaw:

As for Eccleston. I still think it's unlikely, but if I were a betting man I'd say the odds had shortened, just slightly, after this (although a 66-1 shot is just as much of an outsider as a 100-1 shot).

Looking at this from a purley narrative perspective though, it would make sense if this is a redemptive story for the War Doctor for this story to end with a regeneration (and equally if Hurt somehow turns out to be the villain regeneration may be the only solution).

Unless Moffat actually plans for us to see Hurt again?
