I remember a quote from McCoy saying something about how he delivered Gorn octuplets in Into Darkness. I don't remember if he actually did that in the game or not. Anyone?

Memory Beta doesn't mention such an incident but this "Talk page" of Memory Alpha says:

"You could use similar logic to say that McCoy delivering the Gorn octuplets was in reference to the game, but the line practically contradicts the game. The best resolution I can find is McCoy making things up to show off to Marcus, although even that raises the question of why he would use a recently discovered extra-galactic species she likely wouldn't have heard of."

I love that the line is there, because it's a pretty damn good reason to just ignore the Game version of the Gorn.

I would say they didn't care about trying to be consistent with the game. An earlier scene blatantly disregards to comics, so why not the game too?

I don't get the game's take on the Gorn anyway. Mainly because Enterprise is still meant to be part of the Abramsverse's history and the Gorn were mentioned in Enterprise. Yes, even in the Prime Universe, the episode Bound if you're wondering.

During the Spelunking level on the Gorn-occupied planet, McCoy mentions via communicator that their camp site was attacked by a group of Gorn civilians. One of the Gorn turned out to be a pregnant female, who went into labor after being stunned. Bones says he had to perform an emergency c-section, and says the newborns "Almost took my hand off!"

This dovetails with the fact that Gorn morphology is pretty elaborate in the game; there are five or six subspecies/subtypes (enemy classes, basically) one of which is actually a feathered female. They have varying degrees of intelligence and it's implied in the background material that only the officer classes are even sentient, the rest are basically just trained monkeys with over-amped aggression responses.

    Considering the alternative...

Wait...Extra-Galactic? Wouldn't that mean from outside the Galaxy?

:) You can bash that old Gorn design all you want, but honestly I hope if they ever do bring the Gorn back they try and design a modern suit/costume based on it. Eliminate the cheese using modern materials and know-how. I really was not big on the CGI Gorn from IAMD, or the Veloci-Gorn from the game.

Between the "supernova" and "cold fusion", I wouldn't take that too literally. For all we know, "extra galactic" in the Abrams-verse could mean that they're from Pennsylvania.

I always though "cold fusion" was just a nickname for the process they were using since it would have the effect of freezing the innards of the volcano.

That's certainly what I had assumed. It's a quick, catchy way of describing what's going on. That it appropriates the name from one of the late 20th century's scientific blunders is the kind of joke that nerds make.

In the game, the Gorn are explicitly from another galaxy (which they've conquered), and reach ours via wormhole. I can only guess the writers weren't told about the split timeline thingie. Abrams did jump ship, after realizing the game wasn't gonna be very good.

I like the updated version we got in ENTERPRISE and would prefer the Gorn to be depicted as such if they ever appear in live action Trek again.

To be fair the Gorn never appeared in the Prime Universe until Arena.

Technically they did appear on an Episode of ENT, but that was in the mirror universe, and despite the name it's pretty obvious that it is a standard parallel universe similar to the JJverse.

But as I mention above they were mentioned by name in the episode Bound.

Somehow, I always thought of the Gorn as being similar to the Elites from Halo, just subtract the split lip. Some of the smarter/officer-type Gorn from the game really fit that for me, especially that red bastard that throws the teleporter pods around.:klingon:

I just assumed that the wormhole device was the Gorn's normal means of interstellar transportation; the Helios device merely amplified it.

I like the rubber-suited Gorn and have no real use for the Veloci-Gorn.

Yeah, that CG Gorn from Enterprise was just terrible. Had I been directing that episode I would have pulled the very same lizard suit used in Arena regardless of its condition. Would have looked much better.

I'm way too young to appreciate rubber gorn. Every time I see it now I have to fight the urge to scream "Ahhhh! Godzirra!"
