I'm tempted to say the DS9 tug and the spacedock shuttle are probably independent designs, and that the latter wasn't repurposed into the former. They do share some basic shapes, but that's about it.

They also share an approximate size. Although that's probably more an artifact of all the interesting cheap greeblies lying around on the desk of a modelmaker (marker pens, razor handles, toy robot arms) being of a certain size.

Right - and the DS9 ship seems more of a legit ship, whereas the Starbase 47 tug is just a workbee.

The whole concept of towing with a tractor beam is somewhat hazily portrayed in Trek. Does the tug need strong engines, or does a strong tractor beam somehow do the trick of moving the load? We have seen Wesley lifting a supposedly not insignificantly lightweight piece of furniture with a handheld tractor beam device in "The Naked Now"; the amount of physical effort evident is in no way comparable to what would happen if Wes tried to lift that chair with a rigid pole of equal length!

The handheld device jibes well with a simple runabout being capable of moving a Galor in "Emissary", as well as a few other feats including the E-D moving an entire moon...

Both the "11001001" pod and the "Favor the Bold" spacecraft could be relatively humble affairs, only the former concentrates on having agile manipulators while the latter has robust ones plus a whopper of a tractor beam... The rounded "shuttle" introduced in ST3 could in turn be a pure tractor beam type, with the (apparently intended?) ability to move big starships around. A spectrum of types, rather than wholly different categories, perhaps.

Better late than never I suppose, I found photos of the small Constitution variant that I like so much, the U.S.S. Jupp. (These came from Drex's blog.)

^^ Nice pictures, have never seen those before. While the warp nacelles of USS Jupp are rather close together, two are still better than just one, IMHO.

Can't help to think that this could be a member of the "Destroyer Class" (opposite to "Starship Class" vessels like Enterprise and Reliant) mentioned in The Making of Star Trek. ;)

One and a half base stands from an old Excelsior model? Doesn't take up a lot of time and still looks interesting as long as you don't get too close.

Doug Drexler, on his Facebook page, just posted some snapshots of the kitbash fleet that I don't think have been seen before. (Maybe the ships have, but not these particular pictures.)

There's more on Drexler's FB page. I like it except for all the copper paint... That said, I have two broken Ertl E's in my box of old Star Trek model parts and I think I'm bumping this up on the list of ships to mimic!

Just went to his Facebook page (I really need to friend that guy), and AFAIK, all those pics he posted were already from his blog.

I wasn't sure. He's dug up some actual new stuff, yet others have been reposts from Drex Files when they actually were new to the net. He does put up some fantastic material and writeups to go with it. You DO need to friend him! :bolian:

I actually really like the Freedom class (and FJ's Saladin/Hermes class). The one nacelle design is just cool to me. I also really like the Niagara class. I like how they have interesting nacelle configurations, and I would have loved to see them actually in one of the shows/movies in a complete way, and not just as wrecks/a display screen.

Hey Dukhat, can you pester Dan Curry for some better pics of the Raging Queen specifically how the two hulls connect and what it looks like from underneath.

Sorry, no. I did that already not long after he sent me the pics, as I'm building a replica of it and also wanted to know how the two hulls connected. However, he never replied back to me after repeated emails, and he's not the best at quick responses (it took me literally years to get these pics from him). He was nice enough to send what he sent, and I don't want to pester him again, as he's a busy man and doesn't really have the time to answer a lot of fan emails (which I completely understand).

However, there is a photo of the Curry model taken for the Star Trek Magazine that shows the side of the ship, although the pic is quite small. But it does show that the Excelsior neck is what connects the two hulls...it's just placed directly under the saucer.
