How I Met Your Mother: The Final Season

Man, I absolutely love the Mother. Her scenes with Lily were utterly fantastic, as was the glimpse into the future with Ted. Fantastic bit of casting, feels like she's been part of the group all along.

My theory. All the other characters meet Mother before Ted, and they mastermind their meetcute from behind the scenes.

Perfect episode. I really liked seeing them together finally. I wonder if Ted is going to ask her to marry him during that trip one year from now. I'm really interested in what happened when Ted went to see Stella. I've always been baffled how Stella and her husband left Ted the final time happy with him that he helped them get back together, and then the next thing you know The Wedding Bride comes out portraying Ted as a horrible jerk and the cause of all their problems. Maybe that will be addressed if we see Stella again.

It was nice to have a scene with Ted and the Mother in the future. Hope they do more of that before showing them actually meeting, esp. if the meeting is later in the season.

Episode titles don't really count for spoilers, but they released the name of the 16th episode (200th overall in the show) and it is titled "How Your Mother Met Me". It's reasonable to assume that's when it finally happens.

I like how the mother remains nameless... I wonder how long they can keep this up.

I think that sounds like it could be a fun episode!

While this is all speculation at this point, I read a rumor that the episode "How your Mother Met Me" will show certain situations from past episodes from the mother's perspectives: Ted being at her apartment, Ted "accidentally" teaching her class...actually that's all I can remember.

That does sound really interesting though (if true, of course).

Thats my guess as well. It seems like a pretty safe bet that we will get an episode like that at some point.

Loved the scene with with her and Lily on the train.. especially the intercut comments by Ted showing how weird she actually is and we know she's perfect for him exactly because she's so weird (and i love her tiny crooked teeth.. makes her look interesting).

The end scene was also awesome giving us a glimpse of a happy couple.

I'm really excited for this season which hasn't happened a long time with this show.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Season 9 Episode 3 Last Time In New York Photos : “Last Time in New York” — When Lily discovers Ted’s list of things he wants to do in New York before he moves for Chicago, she becomes frustrated that she is the only person who knows about his plans. Meanwhile, Robin and Barney realize they have very little time together before their relatives arrive for their wedding...

While I like that they'll be revisiting they're old sets for what seems like the last time, I'm curious if it will be in a flashback since they're all already at Farhampton. I can't imagine Ten just randomly going back to New York for some reason.

Why do you think that, in the course of a 22 episode season on a show with numerous flashbacks and callbacks to previously shot scenes and expanding previously shot scenes that this would be the last time we see the apartment or MacLaren's? All those sets have been confirmed to be still standing for precisely the opportunity to continue using them.

I actually realized that after I posted, just didn't get back to edit it though.

It was just an assumption on my part though, based on nothing but the name of the episode title.

That publicity shot from the apartment with Lily really makes it apparent (to me at least) that the apartment is a set, and not a real apartment. It's always amazing how they make them look like real places on TV, but when you see them from just slightly different perspectives, they look completely fake. I think it has to do with forced perspective and angles, that fools your brain into thinking a set is larger than it really is.

Apartment Set

Kind of like the classroom sets from shows such as Boy Meets World, where they have maybe 9-12 chairs in the classroom yet always shoot it to make it seem like a real classroom.

Oh it most definitely is a set, over at the Fox lot. My friend and former co-worker David works in post on the show and has shared a few photos every now and again, and if you look really carefully, you can actually see him in the last scene of the finale last year (when we met the mother!)

Here are two photos, one of which very obviously shows that the apartment is definitely a set on a soundstage:

Just saw the premier last night, and, yeah, Mother is pretty amazing. Outside of her, though, I thought the episode was so-so.

Did you give him an intervention?

Episode 3 wasn't as good as the premiere. And no Mother :-(

I did like the Princess Bride callback. I totally forgot about that until they showed the clip.

This episode brings back my reservations about setting the entire season over 48 hours. How long will Marshall be off with this lady before he unites with the cast? How much of the entire season is taking place in this hotel? How long until Ted meets Mother?

Now that I've seen the mother I'm probably out. I used to love this show but it's getting less and less funny. I was going to stick it out to the end but I don't know.
You know, as much as I'm glad that we have the mother, it did knock some of the energy out of the show because now the mystery is gone.

How long will Marshall be off with this lady before he unites with the cast?
I've been wondering the same thing. Sherri Shepherd is a host on The View and the new season has started so I'm guessing that her character won't be around for much longer.

How much of the entire season is taking place in this hotel?
Pretty much the whole thing I'm guessing.

How long until Ted meets Mother?
8 months? I don't think he'll meet her until the end.

I think he'll meet her a few episodes before the end, since episode 200 is titled: "How Your Mother Met Me," and is not the final episode. So I bet they meet, and we get at least one or two episodes of them as a couple. Or maybe they meet at the wedding, but don't do anything about it until they meet at the train station.

As for this episode, I enjoyed it. I felt it started out a bit slow but by about the halfway point it really picked up. I also think this season will play better when someone can sit down and watch multiple episodes at a time.
