I went to Target yesterday but walked out with nothing.

I was disappointed but not surprised to find all their blurays pre-damaged, jammed into security boxes that were too small.

For those who did buy it at Target - were they not damaged like that? Did you not care if they were? Did you just toss the slipcover?

Of course the DVDs were not security-damaged. But they're as valuable to me as a VHS at this point.

When I bought mine I bypassed the display and went to the media center and found a number of blu-rays in those tiny coffins and the slipcovers were smushed in the top corner. I lookedthrough a few and found one with minimal damage so I picked it up. When I went back up front I looked at the display and the blu-rays were in bigger security boxes so I grabbed one of those and stuck my tiny coffin amidst the bigger ones. Of course I got home and peeled off a sticker and took some of the slipcover off while doing do. Fracking stickers.

Thanks for the info, Oso! But my intention was to import the German 3D, rip the VAR 2D 1080p stream from the disc (not a fan of 3D) and burn it back to a blank BD.

But - it's all moot now!

The only issue I had with the packaging on the one I ordered from Amazon was that the plastic slipcover was slightly warped from the heat we've been having in the area the last several days.

I actually took a long time going through the copies just to find one that wasn't like that. :alienblush:

Then I open it up at home to find minor warping of the plastic cover on the front of the Blu-ray case...:brickwall:

But I got the stickers off the slipcover without incident...

The best part is that there were no ( zero ) copies of the film in the actual Blu-ray/DVD section at around 2:30 in the afternoon, just in the displays near the front entrance. Some guy was stocking movies, probably hadn't gotten around to it yet. Whatever.

There really isn't any other response to this post that I can think of. Oh, wait.

No one forced you to buy ANY of this shit. Paramount fleeced everyone because they knew they could and that the fans would pay for it because the fans always pay for it.

All you lovely people who went out and bought the movie and especialy those of you who went to the trouble, as Tommunist seemingly has, to get more than one version of the film don't get to complain about Paramount spreading the extras like this anymore. You're all part of the damn problem, constantly feeding your cash into Paramount's maw no matter what they spit back at you.

Certainly, it's your choice to do so but Paramount doesn't owe anyone anything. It's their property to distribute the way they want to, and as long as they believe we, the nerd-driven completist "gotta catch 'em all" fans will pay for whatever they put out, they're not going to change their business model.

"The fault, dear Braga, is not in our stars but in ourselves."

We have no one to blame but ourselves.

    I don't believe he's claimed otherwise.

All he's done here is describe the steps taken to arrive at the set he wanted to own. Yes, it's a bit involved (and more trouble than I would have taken) but as long as he's satisfied with the result, who am I to say he's wrong to have put in the effort?

I couldn't have said it better or more plainly myself, doubleohfive. And as a matter of fact, I'm not allowed to any more, by decree. It's a good message to those who are still pondering whether to buy or not. Thanks for posting. (But I'd probably leave out the curses that everyone seems to love here, even if quoting and responding to someone who uses them).

    "Lighten up, Francis..".

I knew what I was doing, and the extra purchases have now more than paid for themselves, and a few people elsewhere have also gotten stuff they wanted as a result. So, instead of just bitching about not getting the super-release many here would want, I made my own. A successful "enterprise", if you will.

And guess what? I still get to complain and pass judgment on any release I want, much in the same way you have passed judgment on me and declared what "rights" and say I have in the matter, which will have no bearing on my actions in the future.

    Funny how that works!

Annnd... To further share with my fellow Trek fans, the first person to PM me will get an unused Digital Copy/Ultraviolet code for the film. The digital copy code will get you the iTunes "enhanced commentary". Now the sheet says the code can only be used for either a UV copy or iTunes copy, but reports are that it will work for both. So whoever gets this, I encourage them to share the unused portion of the code if they don't want it on both formats. Yay community of Trek fans!

How have you made a monetary profit from the purchase? I might change my mind if this is actually not hyperbole.

Well, eBay prohibits selling of digital copy codes, which I didn't know at first, but which I see all the time. So your mileage may vary there. But there are online forums to trade or sell those things elsewhere, I understand.

I sold (or am selling)two Blu-rays of the films, 3 DVDs, and one 3D Blu-ray. At this point, I have more than made the difference of buying the Target and Best Buy exclusives.

Your mileage may vary; I think putting this stuff up right away allowed me to strike while the iron is hot. The Target Cartwheel app saved me 10%, and I had a 5$ Best Buy reward cert that saved me a few bucks.

Any surplus money goes right back to my movie buying fund. Last time I did something similar was when I sold the Target Avengers exclusive content Blu-ray for $20 (I'm keeping my Trek exclusive). Why anyone would pay that much for it is beyond me (I had no reserve on it with a 99 cent start price), when for a few dollars more they could've just bought the entire release themselves...

But look at it this way, many Blus come with a dvd. I'm not going to ever use it, so I give 'em to friends in the real world or online, or in this case, got some coin back... I thought some here would get a chuckle out of the elaborate steps I took to do this. I had the time, and took advantage of the first-sale doctrine.

Here's the funny thing when I bought mine:

I picked up the 2D Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital combo from Best Buy (on sale for 19.99 - sticker price $27.99.) I also picked up Season 2 of "Enterprise" on Blu-Ray as well.

Funny thing, when the transaction completed; a message popped up on the cashier screen that I was entitled to a free $25.00 Best Buy gift certificate (which I accepted.) The cashier wasn't sure if it was because I bought both of these items at the same time, or what; but he wasn't questioning it, and I wasn't complaining.

(And yes, I verified I wasn't charged an extra $25.00 on the receipt.)

I do buy Blu-Rays there quite often, so I'm sure I'll make use of the card; so, one way to see it is they gave me STID free and paid $4 and change toward my purchase of ENT Season 2.

    Not too shabby.

So wait, there's no way to get the commentary with the Target version (with the download code that comes with that version)? The ONLY way to hear the commentary is to buy the iTunes version?

No, the UV/Digital Copy code included with any of US STiD releases will allow use to use the code on iTunes which will get you two downloads: the movie itself and the "enhanced commentary" version of the film. Yes, the commentary is iTunes only, but any digital copy code from the Blu obtained anywhere in the US will get you access to it. Can't speak to other nations though...

And like I said above, first person to PM me will get a free code on me! (Too late! Code claimed!)

The Best Buy featurettes were available for free from Best Buy's CinemaNow service without buying anything, but I'm not sure if that changed.

Looks to be the case, at least with this link: http://www.cinemanow.com/#title/555743

The Canadian release of the Best Buy exclusive has this on an actual disc, but it doesn't say if is DVD or Blu.

I think the only one with the bonus disc was the one with the white cover. The other one has a Target exclusive sticker, but it's just for the coupons, not the bonus disc.

The packaging was fine for me... the Target I went to had large security boxes so they didn't damage the packaging.

Do we have a choice whether to download the digital copy from iTunes or Ultraviolet? I don't want to mess with UV... I'd much rather do iTunes. Do we just use the same code in either?

You can choose either one though right after I finished downloading it off itunes I used the same code on Ultraviolet and that worked as well. So I got both. I've heard that if you redeem the code on ultraviolet right away after itunes that both work. It's a glitch of some kind because it's supposed to be one of the two.
