The article has some good points, and I too would like to see Trek back to exploration. But that's it.

The rest is smug bullshit. Say what you will about plot holes and lens flares and rehashed scenes, but as far as characters and writing, ST09 and STID were spot on. Also, the fact that that some people continue to argue that STID was a "flop" is both sad and amusing.

Orci could have been more diplomatic, but... yeah, sometimes "fuck off" is just the perfect reply.

    Not by a long shot.

The writing of Kirk and, to a lesser extent, Uhura is probably the low point of this entire series. McCoy is little more than a Buzz Lightyear who spouts a cute southern catchphrase when you press his button.

The flaws of the story have been covered enough around here to illustrate why it is far from "spot on".

Kirk is a different man in the new timeline, but you get to see the seed of the dedicated, compassionate and passionate commander that we know and that he's slowly becoming in the new universe.

Uhura simply didn't have a personality in the old series, so anything is an improvement over that. Still, the competence and strength that were just hinted in TOS are apparent now, so it's not difficult to see them as the same character.

And I don't see any difference between the original McCoy and the new one: both are caricatures, and very limited in their use.

The actors did a fantastic job of inhabiting the characters without parroting the old gang, taking inspiration here and there but giving new breath to the characters.

Now, YMMV. If people don't like the new Trek, it's their prerogative: but saying that it is "broken" because it doesn't personally appeal to them is just self-entitled bullshit.

For all the noise about it, Orci posted very little and nothing of substance. I was hoping for longer posts and more of them. I was hoping for a reply about the the Blu-ray extras going to retailer exclusives. I'm still waiting for someone involved to say something about that, such as "We're very sorry but we like money more than we like you." So overall, a big yawn.

Why are people still bitching / brown-nosing the film? Move on people. The 50th anniversary is coming up and I'd expect nothing less than the best movie ever with the best games ever (25th anniversary DOS rocks to this day) and follow it up with 1289371298 petitions to the stupid studios to stop bickering and LET US MAKE A DAMN TV SHOW ALREADY.

Rod Roddenberry just tweeted that he had Orci on his Mission Log Podcast.

Roddenberry says Orci gave great insights into the development & thought process of the 2009 film and Into Darkness. Sounds very interesting. Maybe this will be the "commentary" that is absent from the blu-ray.

So the take away of this is: If you didn't like Into Darkness and you raise valid points about it's many flaws in a fairly civilized way your points are all invalid. Because STD made money. So you can FUCK THE FUCK OFF YOU FUCKING FUCKS!

Wtf Robby. So a couple hundred people at Vegas Con 2013 vote STID to be the worst film in the franchise. Then you retaliate by going on to a fansite to rant and bitch about your bruised feelings.

To be honest we have 3 films in a row that run mostly parallel with TWOK in very broad strokes. NEM, ST09 and STID. The latter two were written with his contributions. My complaint is that it makes the series seem one note. The whole point of rebooting the franchise was to free yourself creatively from 4 decades of continuity. However the first thing Linedolf, Kurtzman and Orci did in both films was reference continuity and place a few spins on it to make it seem fresh.

Well if folks can bitch and complain about something he worked on, he's got as much right to snap back at them. It's not a one way street. Could he have been more tactful, sure. Did he have to be? No.

Er...what? Why would Orci even talk about the Blu-Ray extras-controversy, other than as an aside? He only wrote the movie; he has nothing whatsoever to do with its home video release, or any of the marketing decisions that went into it, nor is he an executive at Paramount Home Video.

He has nothing to "reply" for, here -- any responsibilities he once had towards the film were discharged in the screenwriting and production stages, which are totally different topics of conversation.

STID has made more money that any other Trek movie. It really is only a small minority that he is yelling at. It makes him sound petty and unprofessional. A number of fans and critics didn't like MoS but you don't see David S. Goyer telling them to fuck off for having opinions of his work. MoS being the most divisive film among fans and audiences this summer.

Orci was responding to the moronic article someone posted on TrekMovie.com a couple of days ago about Star Trek supposedly being "broken." That's why he says "The article above..." etc.

Goyer's totally sleeved. He doesn't have to tell people to fuck off.

Well, fandom can suck sometimes. It's got to be a chore trying to contribute anything to a franchise. You'll end up cheesing somebody off, for sure.

I do agree that Trek has become 'one note'. EVERYTHING Trek now seems to revolve around TWOK. Yeah, it was a great movie. But dang it, there have been great movies made that have nothing in common with Khan, or a Khan-like character. I don't care if they go explore or not ever again in Trek, but could they explore a different plot that doesn't have to do with revenge?

When Trek did break out of the revenge story mold, excepting TVH most of those movies are not like by fans
