Star Trek Into Darkness out on Blu-ray/DVD September 10th [spoilers]

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness out on Blu-ray/DVD September 10th [spoiler

^Well strictly speaking it would be region A not region 1 for a BR release. They should have never have brought in region coding for DVD or blu-ray.

My copy has already been posted as the releasfor example in the UK you might have to wait months for a disc to come out that had already been released in the US. e date for the UK is the 2nd of September.

Sorry yes its Region A, B. Numbers are for DVDs? I'd like the phaser but its no use to me if I can't watch the 3D bluray on my Region coded playstation.

Doesn't the UK get it first, the US about 8 days later, we don't get it until 8 days after that?

I see Amazon UK says they have a region free version but Amazon US says nothing either way so I'm not sure.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness out on Blu-ray/DVD September 10th [spoiler

^Yep as stated in my post, the UK gets it on Monday the 2nd of September. I've got a nice 3D/2D steelbook coming. It's just a shame that Amazon.co.uk never did the Phaser set, like the Amazon US, Amazon France and Amazon Germany.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness out on Blu-ray/DVD September 10th [spoiler

And even more of a shame that the extras seem pretty stingy all over this time around. A handful of featurettes doesn't really blow my skirt up. :(

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness out on Blu-ray/DVD September 10th [spoiler

Whats the difference between Best Buy's 30 minutes of exclusive content and Targets.
I don't think anyone really knows yet but, rumor is that they are the same just that Best Buy's will only be available through there CinemaNow service while the Target version is actually on a disc. I canceled my BB pre-order and will pick it up at Target because I'd rather get the exclusive extras on a disc.

I agree! Very disappointed with the amount of extras, another reason why I'm getting the Target version, at least you get a few more extras that way. It's a shame because the 2009 movie had a great set of extras.

True.
And I'm still waiting for an Art Of book :(

No deleted scenes sucks. The commentary is only available on itunes (sure you can get it of the blu-ray for "free") but still it's lame that the extras this time are so chintzy. Maybe there will be a special edition some time next year?

That seems to be the trend lately for many new releases. Put out a "bare bones" version, with a few EPK style special features, then a few months later have fans double-dip to get more content.

To be honest, all of these "exclusives" are irritating as well. I preordered the Amazon 3D bluray combo with the phaser, both because I've wanted to pick up the phaser and the boxart for the 3d is the best IMO (I dislike and don't even have capability to play 3D). I'd be tempted to get the target exclusive, but the boxart is the worst of the options...

Okay I am thoroughly confused. Here in the USA which is the best version to buy that has the most extra clips, such as the ones with chris pine and the prosthetic tail creeping him out. I don't care about any "toys" just the clips. There are so many versions. I see Target has one that has thirty minute extras.

Please help a fellow trekkie out.

Bill Hunt at TheDigitalBits.com has excoriated Paramount for this reprehensible Blu-ray release. He gave an 'F' grade to the extras.

Here's his rant:

Bill Hunt said:
It’s a terrible way to treat your consumers, who are sometimes spending $34.99 or more for a Blu-ray, expecting to get a little genuine value for their money. And no, six different versions of the exact same movie isn’t value. If you’re a serious Blu-ray enthusiast – or for that matter a Star Trek fan of any kind – all you care about when you buy a Blu-ray is getting the movie in pristine quality with lots of extras. Though its A/V quality is exceptional, in all other respects the Star Trek Into Darkness Blu-ray [is] an insult.

...Seriously, if Paramount is going to treat its Blu-ray customers like this, they should just get out of the business altogether. Or better yet, farm all their titles – not just the catalog titles – out to third party licensees who will treat these films and Blu-ray customers in general with greater care and respect.

...I’ll tell you this much: Outside of the Paramount catalog titles, which Warner Bros is currently doing a very nice job on, I would not buy another Paramount Blu-ray release of any title until they stop taking advantage of their customers like this. Not one. World War Z, I’m looking at you. ‘Cause I’ll bet you a dollar they’re doing the exact same thing on that title and on other upcoming new release Blu-rays too.

It’s outrageous.

Here’s what I have to say to Paramount. Do you guys just not care about your Blu-ray customers anymore? Do you really think that anyone outside of Best Buy, Target and iTunes executives is going to be happy that you’ve done this? I’ll tell you who’s going to be rightfully pissed about it: Pretty much anyone who buys any version of this title on Blu-ray. I have to ask: Do you guys even understand who your audience is with Blu-ray anymore? Mostly, it’s serious movie and home theater enthusiasts... and, in this case, Star Trek fans for God’s sake!

THEY WANT ALL THE EXTRAS!

Blu-ray consumers deserve a lot better than to be treated like this. Bottom line: Anyone who spends $34.99 anywhere on a major title like this should get everything – not be forced into a pricey scavenger hunt.

Don't mince words, Bill. How do you really feel?

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness out on Blu-ray/DVD September 10th [spoiler

Hunt's 100% right. It's a bush league move on the part of Paramount, especially for a major release.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness out on Blu-ray/DVD September 10th [spoiler

It's basically a ploy from Paramount to steal more money from customers. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness out on Blu-ray/DVD September 10th [spoiler

Of course you CHOOSE the option that you want to buy. No one is stealing "anything." These are more incentives on the retailers part anyway.

Every release has different features. It's a punk move on their part.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness out on Blu-ray/DVD September 10th [spoiler

Yeah I was pissed that I bought G.I. Joe Retaliation (a movie I enjoyed, because it worked great on every level it intended to work on and cheered me up during a bad time. Just seeing a proper Cobra Commander was enough to make me smile) and I learned only later that Best Buy had more footage on their version and I'd already opened my Target version.I heard the extra footage had more of Jinx, a character I liked even before the film came out.

The point: Before this stupid Into Darkness Blu-ray comes out I'll have to look at comparisons of all the different stores.. It's frustrating.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness out on Blu-ray/DVD September 10th [spoiler

The most outrageous thing is that the commentary is itunes bonus content and not on the blu ray itself.
