haha.. well I never was into 7 or Jeri as far as looks go. I just love 7 as a character, I love her story arc.

Christina Hendricks is really incredible to look at, quite unique. And of course, acting +10.

Great article about OitNB from Rolling Stone.

    http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/...ew-black-became-netflixs-best-series-20130813

    I loved this part...

That's right, folks. The completely serviceable House of Cards may have garnered nine Primetime Emmy nominations this year, but Orange Is the New Black is the better written, more heartfelt and more complete show. It shines where Cards fails and, if the TV gods are on our side, it will end up with just as many nominations as its big brother in 2014.

In fact, if Kohan, Schilling and Kate Mulgrew (playing Galina "Red" Reznikov) aren't already Emmy locks for next year, there's something wrong with the system. Add in buzz for Natasha Lyonne, Uzo Aduba and Taryn Manning, and you've got a certified hit on your hands.

    TALL MEN WITH FEELINGS... continued

When Larry went to the NPR studios to record his interview with Maury Kind... we see the initial discussion about the Feds coming to their house (the apartment he "rents" from Mom & Dad). He makes a comment about not expecting life changing moments to appear while one is in their pajamas. Maury is suitably solicitous at the angst/difficulties Larry must suffer being apart from Piper, but then notes he & Piper aren't the average inmate/fiancé. They have resources, money, family and Larry's allowed to "see" her whenever he wants.

I nearly coughed up a fur ball when Larry claimed to see Piper "quite often" and Team Larry lost another 200 points.

Well... I guess when compared to that guy who hasn't seen his husband in TWO YEARS while he does research at the flipping SOUTH POLE... yeah, compared to him, Larry really does see Piper a lot. She's probably feeling absolutely smothered with all of his attention.

It's now the day after Tricia's "wake" and Piper has the worst hangover of her life. It seems "Toilet Hooch" is more potent than "Pinot Grigio". Alex laughs at her lover as Piper suffers in the dining room. But not all of Piper's suffering came from the bottle. A good portion comes from her conscience as she watches Leanne (blonde meth head follower of the Appalachian Prophet) eat alone.

Piper: I don't think Pennsatucky deserves to be in Psych.

Alex can't believe Piper and lays her change of heart to a post-hangover emotional state. Alex, who has never been in SHU sees no problem with sending the girl who BROKE HER GLASSES to Psych. Piper tries to explain just what that punishment means.

Piper: It was pretty horrible, Alex.
Alex: You thought it was hilarious.
Piper: That was before I talked to Suzanne about what Psych was like.
    Alex: Who's Suzanne?
    Piper: Crazy Eyes.
Alex: Are you cheating on me and Larry with Crazy Eyes? Cause there's not room for four of us.
Piper: (Ignores the jibe) Shut up. This is not funny. (Alex is still laughing) She said that Psych is even worse than the SHU and... and I can't even ... begin... I can't.

The dynamic going on in the conversation is compelling. Hung over Piper feels guilty, headache free Alex does not. Initially Alex thinks Piper's conscience is funny but when Piper chides her for starting the "gaslighting of Pennsatucky" (For you youngsters who refuse to watch B&W movies... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaslighting ) Alex protests.

Alex: Whoa! What is it with the blaming? YOU sent her into that bathroom. Don't project your conscience on me, especially before I'm barely awake.

Piper agrees. Agrees that its her emotion, her morals that she's fighting, and its her job to solve the problem by going to Caputo and confessing to arranging the con game on Tiffany that led her to believe she WAS an instrument of the Christ. Hopefully that will convince Caputo to let Tiffany out of Psych before too much damage is done.

Piper: I am so tired of running away from my shit, Alex. You said it yesterday... I compartmentalize everything to make myself feel better. I mean... I'm having an affair with you... and we did not play a "prank" on Pennsatucky, we were MEAN. I can NOT let her stay in Psych... I can't.

After laughing at Piper's conscience, after refusing to allow her conscience to feel anything except RIGHTEOUS retribution has been meted out to the Meth-head... Alex does a 90 degree turn.

I just can't figure out "why".

Alex: I would like to stress, that I think this is truly fucking stupid... It was ME who started this whole thing.
Piper: Then I'll take this one for the both of us.

Could anyone tell me one time, so far this season, ALEX has taken the fall for the both of them? Piper does it here... Piper did it with Healy after the dryer fiasco.

Do you think Alex is trying to answer this very question herself, when she fades into her last flashback of the episode.

    Its still Paris.

Past Alex is sitting on the bed, looking STUNNED.

Past Piper enters the bedroom, freaking out because she can't find her passport. Her suitcase is packed and standing by the door with her carry-on. As she tears through the drawers, talking a mile a minute, Alex is silent, staring off into the distance.

Piper: ... If I miss this flight, I am screwed... ALEX! PASSPORT! HELLO!
Alex: (Quiet, tearful voice.) My Mom died.

Piper has switched gears and has gone from shouting to calmly soothing the heartbroken daughter of the single mother who worked 4 jobs to buy her kid the best off brand sneakers from Payless that she could afford.

Piper: (softly) What can I do?

And now Team Alex loses yet another 500 points.

Instead of "asking" the woman to "help" by packing her shit as Alex makes flight arrangements home, or asking her to call the airlines as she packs her own stuff... Alex simply ASSUMES Piper will automatically drop everything in her life to be at her side.

Piper: Al... I can't go with you.
    Alex: What?
Piper: I'm so sorry about your mom... but this doesn't change anything.
Alex: You're still leaving? Right now? My (voice cracks) mother's just died. I can't fucking believe you.
Piper: I can't be your girlfriend.
Alex: Yeah... and apparently not even my friend. (Piper looks sad, until Alex admits) Top drawer, underneath my T shirts.
Piper: Jesus Alex. You fucking hid it?
Alex: (tearful) Please... don't leave. Not now.

Past Piper looks at Past Alex one last time, then turns on her heels and leaves Alex for the next 8 years.

I am so behind.. I am still behind. Tomorrow I will be more behind. I am behind on television (by decades!) and I am behind on television commentary by thousands of posts!

I will never catch up :(

And all this time I'm fighting an overwhelming impulse to re-re-rewatch Firefly.

Am I the only one not in love with Firefly? Serenity the Movie was pretty good but the series never really got me. I think it was too much of a western for my taste

Did you watch it on TV or the DVD's?

If you hate westerns, it won't make a difference, but the way Fox presented it on TV was so backwards that it didn't make sense for the first 6 eps. (IMO)

Firefly went from "ooo that was nice" to my most favoritest comfort food on about a billion levels. I never saw it as a western any more than Tattooine scenes made IV a western. It had super future modern cities (fantastic) and gritty urban run down shit holes and outposts where everything is made of wood and there's horses.. as there would be if you set out into space with a bunch of earth animals and never found any thing alien and native to ride. Visually it's my best thing ever, a banquet.

It's interesting that there are NO ALIENS and no alien life forms in Firefly.

If you ever want to do a Firefly rewatch/lovefest with me JRulez let me know, I would welcome your Orange style reviews! And yes I will get to them eventually, going to see Elysium today though so might take me a bit.

    TALL MEN WITH FEELINGS... continued

Before I finish this ep, which I'm dragging out because there are :scream: ONLY TWO FRIGGIN SHOWS LEFT UNTIL NEXT "SPRING" :scream: after TMWF's ends... I thought I should remind everyone where the title comes from.

Remember Pornstache, the drug dealer who put a stash into Tricia's hands to sell after she had JUST finished her detox in the SHU?

Yeah, the same guy who found her dead on the utility room floor and covered up his complicity in her death by making it look like a suicide.

Well, he might  be feeling "something" over her death.

The day after the death, Pornstache actually invites Bennett to a bar after work to de-stress and quickly drinks too much and insults 2 party girls looking for a good time. He then unloads his occupational induced angst on Bennett regarding all those female prisoners who surround him day in and day out and who never take the time to see the soul behind the TALL foreboding MAN, never ONCE realizing that he too "has feelings".

Now, maybe the guys on the board can help me interpret the end of the Bennett/Mendez scene. Is it common for your drunk buddies to finish off their bear hugs with you, by kissing you on the back of the neck? ;) I hope Bennett remembers that Mendez likes to "live in the present"... which might be interpreted best by that old song,

    What a great segue! :rommie:

Piper has been to the mountain (Caputo) and returned to the white suburbs/Alex to tell the tale. He didn't send her to SHU for gas-lighting Tiffany Doggett but she has to do the night shift janitorial duty for the next 2 weeks

Alex had been sitting up reading on her mattress free bunk before Piper arrived and has now laid her book, not to mention herself down to relax... telling Piper she had to be "careful" for the next 2 weeks while Piper is on probation with Caputo while simultaneously smoothing the spot next to her on the narrow bunk.

Piper: No, no, no, no, no. That looks the exact opposite of being careful.

Naturally, the woman who convinced straight laced Piper to carry $50,000 of drug money into Brussels easily convinced her to spoon under the very eye of the correction officer on duty in "the bubble".

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8IFMYVWMo0

And for the moment, they were alone and weren't distracted by trying to orgasm before breakfast was over and their duty shifts began, or plotting the demise or resurrection of Appalachian prophets.

For the moment they were just two people who once loved each other deeply.

Alex: Hey, I'm proud of you.
(KaChing! Team Alex picks up 250 points!)
    Piper: Yeah?
Alex: Yeah. It was really brave. I mean... it was dumb, but brave.
(KaChing! Team Alex picks up ANOTHER 250 points!)
Piper: You know, I don't think that anyone has used that word to describe me, in the history of the world.
Alex: I'm glad we have each other in here, kid.
Piper: Yeah, me too. I mean, I'd rather be on a beach in Tahiti... but, this is a ...close second.... Why do you feel so inevitable to me?
    Alex: I heart you.
Piper: You heart me? What is that, "I love you" for pussies?

Laugh it up, Team Larry, but when Piper sighed back "I heart you, too", a thousand points went rolling into the Team Alex coffers.

Loved it when Nicky walked in to interrupt them.

It's 11 o'clock and Maury Kind's NPR program is about to start, with a very "special" guest... Larry Bloom... AKA Piper's fiancé.

It was nice to finally see Piper step out of her own world for a moment, to ask Alex if SHE (Piper's female lover) would be okay listening with Piper to Larry (Piper's male lover.)

I chuckled at Alex's response, as she handed one of her 2 ear buds to Piper.

Alex: I mean... (Is that a Mae West voice?) I don't think its against the rules.

    TALL MEN WITH FEELINGS... concluded?

The camera plays over 2 barracks while Maury Kind introduces today's program. We see Piper sitting with Alex on her bunk in the white suburbs, sharing ear buds with her "bud", and Morello applies blush while sharing Nicky's bunk & radio. In the ghetto Suzanne is stretching out on her bunk, ear buds in place as Poussey shares her free standing radioset with Watson. Miss Claudette is next door, alone in her cubical with her own ear buds in place.

Healy is alone in his office, putting his feet up on the desk as the program plays, while Gina the skinny white kitchen waif and Silent Norma are busy with Red in the Kitchen, preparing lunch.

Most of the Hispanic contingent have better things to do than listen to this Blanca's boyfriend shoot his mouth off, so they are absent. Unfortunately for Daya, she was otherwise engaged ... in the utility closet.

Maury Kind (OC) Chances are, most of you have been there. It starts with two people in love. You make a lot of promises. Tell each other you're different from the rest, the exception. For a month or two, the long meandering conversations feel foreign and exciting, you get to know one another in a more, intimate level. And then slowly. So slowly you might not even notice, conversations are replaced by missed calls, and resentful voice mails, and then finally, the day comes when the two of you admit that in fact you weren't the exception... that being far away from the person you love the most, is difficult on the good days, and impossible on the bad.

Today we are exploring long distance relationships, and talking with a few New Yorkers who are currently navigating these treacherous waters. I'm Maury Kind, encouraging you to take a break from life and join us... won't you?

We cut to Larry, fawning over Maury in the recording studio as he's about to regale Maury with the kinds of prison gossip his fiancé imparts on her private phone calls or during his visits.

His favorite... is one of the first... and it was our favorite too, until we came to suspect the beauty and the torture that Sue... which is short for Susie.. which is short for Suzanne, AKA Crazy Eyes, carries within her soul. We cry on our couch as we watch Suzanne silently cry on her bunk in the middle of her barracks, no where to run, no where to hide, no one to hold her and reassure her it WILL get better.

But Larry isn't done. He's warming to his subject as he tries to spark Maury's interest in "his" story.

Now he tells Mr. Kind that Piper sleeps with "One eye open, because her roommate is rumored to be a murderer and may shiv her in her sleep!"

Oh Miss Claudette. The "child" who smiled at you as you chatted en route to your visit with Baptiste no longer worries about such things... which Larry most likely KNOWS but neglected to say because it's not dramatic enough for National Public Radio. Remember the journalist's motto... "If it bleeds, it leads."

And while he said nice things about Watson and Red and kind of nice things about Nicky (Hot Lesbian Junkie), he also outed Morello to her fiancé IF he was listening and put 2+2 together.

Of course, what journalist worth his salt would not press the sex issue, consensual and otherwise, in a show about long distance relationships, especially with a guy who's fiancée is in a women's prison???

Would it be inappropriate for me to wish... at this point... that Larry brought up the subject of "edging" and kept his trap shut about everything else?

I admit... he made some damn good points about emotional fidelity and what constitutes betrayal... but like Piper showed in many of the episodes this season, he has zero insight in his own culpability in the matter. The man who claimed just before this passage to be fully committed to their relationship, HIT THE DECLINE BUTTON EVERY TIME SHE CALLED HIM FOR THE LAST 10 DAYS!!!!! :scream:

Larry: But, suppose just suppose, theoretically, that someone she loves was in there with her. Someone she had history with, someone who could understand her life in there, in a way I'll never be able to, it would be devastating to think that, that person could give her something I never can. It would be way worse than just sex... it would be a betrayal.

Piper: (Looks mortified as she pulls the bud from her ear) He knows.

She runs to the phone bank, but bitchy Officer Bell tells her its not phone hours and sends her into lunch.

The nameless cafeteria lady hands her a tray but WON'T look at her.

Many people are staring in a "not complimentary" way as she walks to her table. Suzanne looks simultaneously disgusted and devastated. Morello and Nicky try to look supportive until they are distracted by the arrival of Pennsatucky and the heartfelt hug Leanne gives her.

Piper actually had a ghost of a smile at the sight, until...

Nicky: (Looking behind Piper) Oh Fuck.

Miss Claudette marches into the dining room, right up to Piper's table.

I've got to give some props to Alex here. She jumped out of her seat to stand with Piper as Claudette faced her roomie.

Claudette: Is THAT what you think of me?

It struck me as strange, that Piper simply apologized, rather than say, "It was, those first couple of days, but not for months."

    Could it be?

Does Piper STILL think that way, re: our dear, slave trading murderer?

    TALL MEN WITH FEELINGS... conclusion!

    One last try after lunch.

Computer voice: (OC) An inmate at Litchfield Correctional is trying to contact you, please press 1 to accept the call.

Larry: (OC) So, what did you think?
    Piper: How did you know?
    Larry: Know what, Piper?
Piper: (OC) I know that you know.
Larry: I want to hear you say it. Tell me you had sex with her.
    Piper: Please don't do this.
Larry: (OC) Are you STILL having sex with her?
    Piper: Yes.

Larry tells her Healy called him to say she went to the SHU for Lesbian activity, and Piper assumes he's trying to get back at her by inciting her fellow inmates to kill her with his on air radio comments.

The arguing goes back and forth between indignant lovers under significant stresses who haven't spoken in "over a week", when finally the imprisoned Piper cries out to the cukold fiance.

Piper: Do you have any idea what its been like for me in here? How lonely I've been?
Larry: You've, you've been lonely? Huh? Cause I find that interesting... I just ASSUMED you were okay because you have ALEX now. Do you love her?
    Piper: No... that's its..It's difficult.
Larry: (voice cracks)Do you love her?
    Piper: (voice cracks) Yes.

Larry cries silently, on a New York sidewalk in early December, until he realizes that misery LOVES company, and the old testament allows for "an eye for an eye"... a heart for a heart.

Larry: She named you, you know. She's the whole FUCKING REASON you're in there.

(We watch Piper go into shock at the phone bank)

Larry: How's it FEEL to be in LOVE with the woman who RUINED our lives?
    Piper: You lied to me.
Larry: I guess that makes us perfect for each other.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6i9qKy6cbs

    [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6i9qKy6cbs[/yt]

Piper wants to try and "fix this"... But Larry doubts she can. He then tells her he need some time "away" from the situation...and he disconnects the call.

We hear the dial tone from Piper's receiver as she looks devastated... and in case you've forgotten, the camera shows us a shot THROUGH the prison bars at our Blonde Angst magnet as the theme music plays and the orange screen comes up.

Yes... I know in the last 18 hours there have been some quite frightening RUMORS going around about season 2... and I'm going to float down that "river in Egypt" until I hear something definitive.
