The fact that fan art can lead to the creation of a book series is the coolest part of this whole thing.
Hot damn!
I really, really hope that this new series will carry on the "HBO"type sensibilities of Vanguard.
I think the best year in TrekLit was probably either 2008, with Terok Nor, A Burning House, the first two Myriad Universes volumes, Greater Than The Sum, and oh yeah a little trilogy called Destiny, or 2009, with Vanguard 4 & 5, the first two Beyer Voyager novels, two of the best Titan novels, A Singular Destiny, and Losing The Peace.
Holy crap! How something like this can come around is crazy. A ship I designed for a fan website 12 years ago is plucked from obscurity to become a secondary "character" in a official book series, stars in a series of fan-made fake book covers paying homage to the official novelizations of TOS, and then becomes the star of an official book inspired by the fake covers. What a world!

BTW, if anyone wants to see the covers that inspired this... and my "Blish: Remastered" book covers, you can catch 'em here:

That's some great stuff. I can't wait to see what you come up with for the covers for the real books.BTW, if anyone wants to see the covers that inspired this... and my "Blish: Remastered" book covers, you can catch 'em here:

I also love the faux Bantam '70's "novel that never was" cover by Silverberg. Did you ever do the other titles in that series -- by Phil Dick, etc.?
