Do they throw the fans a bone though. They only load up disc 1 with the trailers. Discs 2-6 (same with the other seasons) go straight to the menus.

Having to skip promos for Star Trek '09 and TOS Season 1 before every movie gets old really fast.

What I love about the TNG-BDs is that you can skip just EVERY trailer easily with the "next chapter"-button.
That even works with the main menu, one can skip even the animation of the planet flying by!
That's so outstanding and very user-friendly mastering, i love it!

There's also no BD-Java, meaning you can easily stop and resume episodes without having to start from the beginning.

If your Best Buy had it in stock, you didn't have to pay $10 more.

Just show them the price on Amazon - bring it up on your phone, if you can. Or show them the price at Target, on their website or take an ad with you. They'll price match. It's that easy.

Although if "Best" Buy lived up to its name, one would not have to do that, as they wouldn't have been beaten so badly on this deal ($10 less for season 4, plus $10 off for buying the season and Redemption together at Target).

Can't say this would bother me at all. Besides, you're looking at a ship at "warp," ya know. ;)

Plus, it's not as though CBS-D were perfect either. There is an alignment issue in The Defector too. (Albeit less obvious than this one.)

CBS-D did the Conform, the live action footage, and the audio mix, I believe.

Modern VideoFilm did the remastering of the effects, under CBS-D supervision, including CGI elements and compositing.

Max Gabl from CBD-D did the planets (I think), so they should match Seasons 1 and 3 standards.

Seasons 5 thru 7 are being done entirely by CBS Digital.

I don't mind the trailers so much, that's what the "Skip" button is for, but I think they are kind of unnecessary.

Those who are getting these season sets likely already know about the other Blu-Ray releases, so they are basically preaching to the choir.

Is it me or does the transporter effect seem REALLY dull?

The CGI shot of the Enterprise coming out of warp originally seen in The Inner Light appears again in Data's Day.

It's much better lit (darker) though. It doesn't stand out as much as before.

I noticed its inconsistency also, sometimes the effect looks low res and lacks contrast while other times its pretty close to how CBS D do it.

I watched "Family" yesterday. And while the remastered FX on this project are what most people seem notice (and rightfully so), for me it's really location heavy episodes like this that show off how worthwhile this whole project is. The whole winyard scenery just looks beautiful now. On TV and DVD all of that looked always really murky and washed out. I'm really happy CBS took on this project and made it possible to see the often times impressive cinematography and great set design on this show come alive for the first time in 25 years! That in my book easily makes up for some messed up lighting passes and stuff like that.

To a degree I can forgive minor issues, but the HTV level of bad was just too much to forgive. Modern Video seems to have done a somewhat better job than HTV, good enough that I'll buy this one, but I am quite relieved that CBS-D is handling the last 3 Seasons themselves. There are some shots in Season 4 that really look like they would have shone given CBS-D's in house talent.

I watched part one of the two part documentary feature last night and is it me or was that a feature that could have gone on the DVD set. They didn't even talk to Jeri Taylor, and while I understand they couldn't get her in time, she was missed. It seems like the last two sets have focused a lot on the writing and the trials and tribulations that went into creating the series, but it feels like the documentaries are losing something from Season 1 and 2 to Season 3 and 4. Also, and I haven't seen part 2 yet, there was no Patrick Stewart in this one, yet Part 2 of Best of Both Worlds hinged on if he would return or not. Hopefully that gets some conversation in part 2.

I can't help but notice though that these documentaries might have been dropping off. Maybe it's just par for the course considering it's season 4 and the series was firing on all cylinders, but one of the things that made the first two interesting was it included old footage of news and what the "outside" world was saying. We got glimpses of ET, or just news in general. It was like reliving what fandom was like when these seasons were produced. Hopefully in Season 5 we might return to that considering that was the year Gene Roddenberry died but I kind of just want them to go "outside" of the writers room.

Also, I like Braga, and I know many people don't but he is hard on himself. He couldn't help being the guy in charge when Enterprise was cancelled. I wish the blame would shift from Berman and Braga to UPN. Hell, UPN is no more now. They ended up failing at a network.

    Agreed.

Nope, that was covered in the BOBW single-disc doc. I think RMB and RL,Jr. are being told not to overlap for sales purposes.

Part 1 of the S4 doc has the production side, Part 2 is the actors. So you'll see him when you watch the next part.

That's my take on the lackluster docs too.

I have a feeling they're saving up for Season 5, which was released in the middle of the big 25th anniversary celebrations.

Agreed there too. Especially when you hear that UPN wanted a band of the week to feature on Enterprise, that's how out of touch they were with what Trek was.

I watched part 2 tonight and, again, this is a documentary that could have gone on the DVD set. There was some good nuggets here, like Spiner talking about Brothers, Wheaton's awesome analogy with the Kings and his relationship with Stewart (And I'm a hockey fan too, but I root for the Sharks), and Frake's story about how Westmore told him a story and didn't finish the make up. The thing is though it's still too internal for my tastes. One of the things I liked about the BOBW Doc was they talked to the actress who played Shelby and that was the first time I got to really see an interview with her and it was awesome. Why couldn't they get people like Bebe Neuerth, or even Whoopi Goldberg. I was also just going to suggest getting Jean Simmons until I looked up that she had passed away 3 years ago (RIP).

Maybe the first two seasons spoiled me too much. I really want them to go out of the box with these, to tell the story of TNG not only from the production and actors perspective but from the fans as well. That's what the first two seasons provided and why I liked them so much.

    SpHeRe31459,

Agreed about the fifth season. If they don't go big on the Season 5 documentary between Gene's death and the 25th anniversary of Star Trek, I will be really disappointed. They can still talk about the writing and the acting. Just provided a part 3, and make it a 90 minute documentary like the first season was. Let's get back to telling the Story of TNG on the same level as the first two seasons worth of Docs. That's what I thought would happen throughout the entire re-release.

I agree, Family looks great. The whole series looks great for the first time. The costumes, sets, cinematography come alive like they never did before.
