There are no screenshots yet of it, but I would assume CBS-D shared their Crystalline Entity render with Modern Video so that they didn't have to recreate it.

I think you're thinking of the S5 episode "Silicon Avatar," which will be done by CBS-D. We're currently comparing the CG work done by CBS-D (the crystalline entity) with that done by Modern Video (the space aliens)

I thought the Crystalline Entity didn't reappear until Season 5?

Looks like they didn't fix the LCARS graphic in "Brothers" that displays Data's super long security code. I thought for sure they would fix that to match Patrick Stewart's voice. I wonder if the Okudas mention why they didn't change it in the commentary track. Hmm...

What would be even funnier is if they talk about how they changed it but somehow the changed shot didn't make it into the finished episode! Anybody listen to the commentary at that point yet?

I know. It's just that when you see what is possible it is disappointing not to see that level of quality maintained.

Nope, I like the new childbirth sequence much better. It's just obvious that's early 90s cgi in the old one...as good as it was for the time.

I think that's the problem, it's not the CGI from the 90s, it's new, recreated by Modern Video, but it doesn't hold up compared to today's CG or even the model work.

That said, I do believe that the new version is an improvement over the original, just that it could have been better.

Some will some won't, it's always worth trying. I've never had a problem having my local Best Buy do the price match, but it may have something to do with the Target being right across the street :)

See, and I *did* have the problem with them not matching the "buy both get $10 off" even though there was also a Target in the same shopping center!

Looks like maybe the best thing for me would be to price match the S4 set to Target's $59.99 and then use an upgrade and save coupon (i.e. trade in a used DVD) to get the Redemption disc down to $9.99. Then I have $10 in rewards points so my total price should be $59.98 before tax, which would beat the Target deal by $3 -- and I'd essentially get the Redemption disc for free. :)

One pixel wide and hundreds of pixels in length. That's the primary reason you can see it -- your eyes pick up on it as a sharp, light gray outline around the creature against the black background of space. The fact remains that it could have been easily avoided if the animator or compositor took the necessary steps to eliminate it. Again, they didn't either due to time constraints and/or lack of experience with CG animation.

And, in my defense, I did write that I thought it was a small error! ;)

Sadly another cool "to be continued" moment is lost with the combination. Much like with BOBW, I'll watch it once, and then switch back to the normal episode presentation. But the bonus features alone makes it worth owning going forward. (Especially since it costs a net of $3 at Target)

One of the commenters on TrekCore said they should have included a "x months later" subtitle when it cuts to Part II. That would have been a good idea.

A shame that the (relatively) poor bonus features on Season 4 weren't supplimented by the bonus features that are on this separate release instead.

If you put Season 4s docs with the Redemption doc, it almost makes it a decent package.
