Lately, I've been in a Deep Space Nine mood. (For me, DS9 seemed more a sequel to TOS...and captures the action/drama that the TOS series had. Also, I watched Star Trek Into Darkness today; my second time seeing the film). Hence, I will possibly read 'The 34th Rule' next.

I've just finish reading 'Fledgling' by Octavia Butler again...and still believe it's a brilliant novel. Before 'Fledgling' I read 'Firestarter,' which also was good...but didn't have the urgency to give it a fast pace, since the story could have gone on and on during the scenes when the protagonists are captured by the antagonists.

While reading 'The 34th Rule' I may simultaneously re-read '3001.'

Finally forced myself to get through Titan: Sword of Damocles. I really did not get into the groove of that one. It felt directionless, taking quite a bit of time to get the plot and then speeding through it. (Some weird issues, too. The planet is stated as having gravity something like 5 times that of Earth, but this issue is never mentioned when the away team makes planet fall.) There were some sequences I enjoyed, and the character building of Dakal and Ra-Havreii was really good. But man... I really did not like this one in the least.

I also read through Seven Deadly Sins: Gluttony: Revenant which I also really didn't enjoy. Overly long (1/5 of the whole anthology!) and it seemed a bit divorced from its theme sin. I did enjoy seeing Locarno, but it was largely disappointing. The Borg also seemed decidedly different in this tale, much more Zombie/Vampirish then Borg which could be fun but didn't seem to work. (Particularly telling about misunderstanding the Borg, one drone uses a "nanoprobe" to assimilate people which is described as being a large needle!)

This morning I breezed through Something Borrowed the Sixth Doctor 50th Anniversary eBook. I quite liked it, not the greatest thing ever, but a nice bit of fun. I was hoping that with the book being first person from Peri's POV we'd get a bit more of her involvement in the climax, but she oddly takes a backseat. Still, it was fun and probably amongst my favorites of the eBooks released so far.

Finally, I started Greater Than the Sum. Only a few pages in, not even through the Prologue when the BBQ-ing started, but quite enjoying it.

I just finished reading the Tos book The Klingon Gambit by Robert Varderman. It was a typical tos story with Kirk versus Klingons. It's not one of the best Tos novels I've read recently.I liked Crossroads by Barbara Hambly great Tos character storyarcs and a real interesting time travel mystery too.

Finished off Fallen Gods a couple of days ago, and am now about three quarters through Indistinguishable from Magic.
Fallen Gods was an odd one - seemed like half of two different stories, neither of which developed properly or finished...or was that just me?
Still working my way through the trek re-launch continuity...but so far as I can tell, that was the last Titan book...are we going to find out what happened to Pava and the other Andorians? Is this plot picked up by another book?

Δ I really doubt its the last Titan book, but if it was it would be easy enough to pick up the threads in another Typhoon Pact bannered novel.

One of the novels in The Fall, the 5-book miniseries starting soon, is a Titan novel. (All 5 books are under the banner title "The Fall" because miniseries sell better, basically, but if it's anything like the first round of Typhon Pact novels, it will still be a Titan novel through and through, regardless of what's on the cover.)

I blew through Greater Than the Sum over the last day and half. I really enjoyed it, despite it being in the unenviable position of being the third Borg story in four TNG novels. It works really well as a prologue to Destiny as we'll. The new additions to the cast were really interesting and the plot in general held my interest.

I started Destiny: Gods Above last night, with the intention of just reading the Prologue, but ended up going about 50 pages. It's so good and really nothing has happened yet!

Finally reading the only DS9 Relaunch book I skipped, the Gateways entry. It makes me nostagic for the early days of the Lit-verse.

I've read the 3 volumes of the IDW 'reboots' of the classic TOS episodes (with a few new adventures) starring the crew of Abrams' Trek. I thought they were pretty cool, and gave some clever changes to the resolutions. For example, 'Operation: Annihilate!' has certain characters 'live' rather than 'dying' and minor characters from certain episodes (Boma, Zhara Jamal) show up in multiple adventures. I think if STID was clever in the way it handled it's 're-imagining' I would be more forgiving of said film; regardless, I did enjoy the 3 volumes. On the other hand: I also picked up the 'classic' DC compilation, 'Who Killed Captain Kirk' which  kinda came off as 'slow' and 'inconsistent' in its story and pacing, and the art work came off a bit too 'busy.'

I am also reading (still) the Deep Space Nine book 'The 34th Rule.'

The Last Four Things by Paul Hoffman. I've had it a while and now I've started it I remember how much I liked the first part of the trilogy 'The Left Hand Of God'.

It's an alternate history, but I just wish I could work out where and when it is set...

I am reading an old Bantam Books TOS novel called Spock, Messiah! Found it at a used book store. The Bantam Books novels are kind of fun because of how far off they can be with characterization. Its like fresh TOS. I can see how some wouldn't appreciate the deviations of characters or some of the bizarre story lines (Culbreath and Marshak) They are generally quick reads.

Finished Sarek last night. It was alright, slow start. Next Trek book will see me finally getting on with my Peter David marathon with The Captain's Daughter. But first I'm finishing off Shadowrun short stories collection Spells and Chrome.

Finished Book One of Destiny, now to Destiny: Mere Mortals. I'm about 150 pages into Destiny #2 and it's quite gripping!
