I didn't want Jadzia to die! But yeah I was kind of WTF when they brought Michael Dorn to DS9 for a "temporary assignment" and then he just never left. I don't think they could have brought him in as a replacement for Kes on VOY cause the two shows were on the air at the same time.

They'd have found a way. In-universe, he could simply have been a Worf-hologram.

That's what I thought but really it's no different than a hologram or a conventional toy used today. But I never found Data very appealing.

I hate it when dead characters come back. If they only do it once, for a very special cause (Like in BSG), it's okay. But if they make it easy for dead characters to magically come back it makes it so character death isn't a real threat, and the jeopardy is reduced in future storylines.

But they totally should have killed Kim instead of getting rid of Kes. Stupid sexiest man list, who the hell would ever find Garrett Wang sexy beyond the standard amount of sexiness necessary to be on TV?

It's interesting that you bring this up, as I'd argue the same logic holds true for a series that basically establishes the main characters will never die during the series. Half the reason BoBW was as iconic as it was is because at the time there was no guarantee that Picard would be alive and well next season.

The problem with that is, the main cast only really ever dies in Trek if the actor quits

...or if the show is over and Berman and Braga decide to write "a valentine to the fans".

Picard didn't make it back. At least not all of him. They would have kept a copy of his personality and memories who would have been part of the decision making process right up till the point Janeway wiped them out.

Well no cause as I said they could have showed the ship slowly falling apart and being patched up with alien tec. As well as replaceing dead crew with some delta quadrent recruits as th series went along.

"No support" is part of the premise. That means once something is broken, it's broken for good. No repairs or replacements.

Dont know why voyager would have lost rateing if they had shown a ship falling apart.

DS9 was a war story, yet the station was always totally repaired and the Defiant always in 100% good shape despite constant battles.

As for killing off major crew? How can I buy a situation dangrous or develop a sense of suspence when I know that everything will turn out ok at the end of every episode?

Might as well ask why TOS, TNG and DS9 barely killed anyone.

But in the case of DSN, they had the full resources of the Federation to call upon, and we did hear mention of ships inline to be repaired at DSN.

I'm not a fan of killing off cast for the sake of it, and VOY did away with quite a few interesting and likeable recurring characters (I'll never forgive them for killing off Hogan). Then when they removed a main cast member it was in a really unsatisfying way, without any real resolution (plus Kes' departure forced Seven down my throat, who I never really took to).

There weren't many situations I ever worried about the ship not surviving, as every enemy they faced they defeated--there aren't many occassions they had to just run or hide from a hostile ship.
