Gee, I'm not even an anime fan and sleet or snow could not keep me from Otakon! (I'll truly give you a lift if you need one ;))

I shouldn't have asked, sorry, it was so rude of me.

I once hitchhiked to a convention.

No, actually that is a lie. But it would prove my commitment if I had.

Sweet, I'll be there. I haven't missed one since 99' though IMO they seemed more fun back then.

Awesome. 99? Wow, you are old school. I will be there. Considering wearing a Kaneda costume (from Akira).

I'm old school but a big kid at heart. It wasn't 99' though, it was 01'. I saved my first badge. I've been Mr. PoPo from Dragonball Z, Vivi from Final Fantasy, even a TOS character as a last minute idea.

(an just when I thought Star Trek wasn't anime enough)

I might go as myself this year depending on how much I have saved up by then.

Is that woman in blue attractive?

    I can't tell.

Any woman, and I do mean any woman, in a Starfleet Uniform is an automatic ten.

    ALL women are attractive.

And yes, she looks a bit like Terry Farrel.

I'm the one in the gold teacake. The girl in the blue was studying to be a doctor. Good looks with smarts to back it has always been attractive to me Guy.

Just seeing that pic brings back the intense desire to get my OTAKON ON!!!! I'll keep an eye out for you, but as I've learned from past experience, it is nearly impossible to locate a particular individual at that convention by eye-surfing the many crowds. What's your costume gonna be this year, bbjeg?

You got a pic of you in your Vivi costume? I'd like to see that.

So true about finding a person in an Otakon crowd, and I was never a fan of Where's Waldo. I wasn't planning on a costume this year but there has been years where I didn't plan for it and did it anyway (like that picture). I had a picture of me as Vivi with a friend as Freya but thanks to a Windows crash I lost it. Now I save them on Facebook (and switched to Linux).

^ That sux about the Vivi pic. You put your eggs in one data basket. A mistake. Cherish thine Otakon photos. Tell you what. At 5 o'clock on Saturday, I will hang out on the front balcony. If I don't see you there, I will be the most stoned person at the rave. May the fates join our paths!

Well I thought I replied (it's the thought that counts right? I think the Submit and Preview buttons should be reversed.). It sounds like a plan. I'm saving up for hard to find merchandise outside of Japan but if I have a good amount I'll work up a costume and probably start/join a Otakon 2013 thread and post what I'll wear there.

To get back on topic, do you think they have conventions in the Star Trek universe? Voyagers last episode could have showed a Voyager convention where people were dressed as species Voyager came across, or would that have been too much?

I think the desire to emulate other species is still in the Star Trek universe. Naomi wanted to be a Borg. The EMH's holo-son was hanging out with Klingon kids and doing his hair and clothes to fit in with them. The fascination with other species would have all kinds of outlets. Parents would wring their hands at how their kids had turned into Vulcan weeaboos and were now only speaking in monotone and replying to every request with "I fail to see the logic.."

So, yeah I think this is a thing.

Imagine what Sisko thought would become of Jake spending too much time with Nog?

(Quark had more to be worried about.)

After all the we're-so-evolved propaganda humans had swallowed they would be freaking out at their kid being friends with a species who had no desire to drink the rootbeer.

I think I went looking for root beer once in my local supermarket and found it, but it's unlikely to have been anything close to the brand/flavour drunk on DS9.

It's exactly the same as sarsparilla.

Someone will now explain to me that it isn't, and why, but having drunk both I think it's a pepsi vs coke deal.

    Pepsi is nothing like Coke!!!!!

I'm reasonably sure I've never had sarsaparilla, but if some fiction drove me towards that beverage it would have been old Lucky Luke cartoons.
