what do people want star trek 3 to be like

1) Original stories. No rehash.

2) I may be in the minority here but I'd like to see more of the federation. More ships. More of the different designs. More of the inner workings of the federation (assuming it's well done and not another the-federation-is-corrupt storyline).

3) And most importantly: I'd like to have the technical and canon advisers have some real authority. When a writer/director/producer suggests transwarp beaming or says that 78 decks seems more dramatic, the adviser gets to smack 'em upside the head and make them go sit in the corner.

Also, 4) throw a bunch of money at Rick Sternbach and get him to do a big batch of ship designs. Man, do I miss his stuff.

Zzzzzzzzzz...

Canon and tech details simply aren't important to drama.

Oh, right. Tell that to the writers and producers of ER and THE WEST WING. Nothing says science fiction can't be given the same attention to detail. Tech and drama can work together in the right hands. Go rent the original FAIL SAFE and tell me the tech isn't important. They made tech and fabulous character drama work in 1964 and a smart writer can do it today.

I was talking more from the angle of making sure minute details match up from production to production.

I wasn't trying to make the work the behind-the-scenes folks do sound less than important. I just worded the post in a sloppy manor. :techman:

Star Trek: The next movie will probably be a reboot. Hopefully the new creative team will do a better job than J.J. "I love lens flare more than Trek" Abrams. The Prime universe is dead (outside of books and the garbage that is Star Trek Online).

You really need to unclench...

Bad Robot will be producing the third Trek film.

That hasn't been confirmed yet (it's also highly unlikely since Abrams and company are gearing up for Star Wars) and a lot can happen between now and 2016-2017.

:sigh:

Paramount has already said Bad Robot is making the third film.

You do know that more than one person works for Bad Robot, right? But hey, keep hanging on to that dream.

“J.J. will continue to develop projects for us including a new ‘Mission: Impossible,’ and he is committed to produce another ‘Star Trek,’” Moore said Friday afternoon.

Just plan to see the little robot running through the field prior to the opening credits of Trek 3.

On a different note. They have to figure out how to include Fizzbin in the next movie.

It won't be a reboot. Abrams will still have input and anyone coming along after Abrams will face quite a challenge to improve on his films. His films aren't perfect by any stretch but given what Paramount appears to want, he'll be a tough act to follow. Naturally this will upset The Committee for the Way Things Ought to Be, but that's not really a big deal to Paramount.

I've been meaning to speak to you about that. When was the last time you even dusted around here?

Seriously the greatest idea ever :techman:

Without indulging in anything else I would like to see in the next Star Trek movie, I will say this. I love me a good space battle. The battle between The Kelvin and The Narada is the only showdown worth mentioning in the reboot, and that was over before the opening title ran!

Give us a proper showdown between two interstellar powerhouses that make the Borg battle in First Contact look like a minor skirmish. :techman:

Also starting Al Pacino as Kracko. Special guest appearance by Christina Hendricks as Gun Moll #3.
