Anyone know why Japan has to wait so long? Did ST09 take that long?

Pacific Rim is being released in August in Japan, too. It'll be released there two weeks before STiD.Probably to give them more time to watch Pacific Rim.

Does anyone know how many movies the cast are locked in for?
Three I believe.
Having seen Man of Steel the other night, I'm so glad that JJ Abrams is in charge of Star Trek.
I think that the box office that MOS is getting is purely down to an expensive advertising campaign and the fact that it's Superman.
Man of Steel is scheduled for release in Japan in late August. Maybe August is one of the stronger months there and studios think it's worth the delay.
Worldwide grosses for the big summer releases so far:
Iron Man 3 - $1.203 billion
Fast & Furious 6 - $636.9 million
Star Trek Into Darkness - $412.2 million
The Hangover Part III - $309.8 million
The Great Gatsby - $300.2 million
Epic - $212.7 million
Man of Steel - 196.7 million
Now You See Me - $107.7 million
After Earth - $102.8 million
Or it's as if someone had The Beatles do an album in the Rolling Stones style rock. (A friend always said Superman and Batman were the Beatles and Rolling Stones of comics.)
That was to be expected. I said a while back in this thread that they would probably end up with similar domestic grosses despite F&F 6's bigger opening. The F&F franchise has always been extremely frontloaded domestically.Has anyone noticed that although Fast and Furious made more than any film in the franchise how it has stalled out at barely $9 million more than STID domestically?
If the year-end chart for 2013 is similar to the last few years, STiD will likely be about #8 for the year domestically and about #14 worldwide. It should still finish in the top ten movies of the year, I should hope.
I like Batman and Superman equally.Or it's as if someone had The Beatles do an album in the Rolling Stones style rock. (A friend always said Superman and Batman were the Beatles and Rolling Stones of comics.)
Yeah. Much like Star Trek and Star Wars are the Beatles and Rolling Stones of sci fi. You can like both, but not both equally.

It's really not too difficult.
And that's the thing really, I only need one Kirk.
I'll take as many Kirks as they throw at me.
There's been tons of reboots of all sorts throughout history. This one is no different to me. In fact, it may be better than most.
I live in Toronto, my family decided to take my dad to see MOS while I wasn't shocked to find MOS was sold out I was shocked that STID was also sold out too. This was a large theater downtown so I guess we know where some of the MOS overspill is going haha!
