Okay, just back from my fourth viewing. The tails are quite Caitian but the facial features are definitely not. The scaly bumps down the sides of their otherwise human faces and Lindelof's insistence that they are meant to be Caitian would suggest that yes, these are aliens of mixed heritage.

My 2 cents here (Which ain't worth a whole lot these days)
This is where a double standard comes in in my view. There is all of this fuss about Marcus slipping off her dress in one scene and Kirk rolls out of the sack after nailing 2 whatever they are's and nothing is said.

Wouldn't be the first time the design of an alien race was changed just to make the actress playing them look better.

The girls are Caitian just like Jadzia Dax is Trill.

Also, ten to twelve full days for a five second scene? It's a wonder the movie was ever finished.

I wouldn't agree that nothing has been said. The "Caitians" scene did come up quite a few times in comparison to the scene which featured Carol Marcus in her underwear - you'll need to go read that discussion, though.

Nah, the basics of Trills remained the same: the symbiont. The bumpy forehead used in one TBG episode didn't look good on DS9's permanent cast member, so they switched latex bumps for spots rather than put their most attractive female cast member under daily latex for six years.

While the twins in STiD do have cat tails (like those of Caitians), it seems the final facial makeup used onscreen doesn't even match up with that described by the actresses in their interview. There doesn't seem to be anything felinoid about smooth torso skin, face scales and cheek bumps, and the alien women don't seem to have latex felinoid ears nor latex felinoid noses.
