Is Star Trek (the original series) aging really badly?

I've never understood the mentality of these people who say they find something hard to watch just because it's "old". For me, it isn't a leap of faith to be able to put myself in the mindset of the time it was made and watch it in that context. Why compare something from 1966 to something from 2013? :vulcan:

I've found it the same with lots of stuff. I've known people who can't sit down and enjoy the 1960s Batman or the 1950s Adventures of Superman series... sure, if somebody doesn't like something that's just a matter of taste, but when the best they can come up with tO explain it away is the phrase "It's so OLD!", then I tend to wonder if the problem is the mindset of the person watching it, rather than anything being wrong with the material itself.

IMO television doesn't "age"... it matures. Gracefully. :)

Whenever I run into this attitude in real life, it's always from some know-nothing 22 year old (or younger) who thinks they're smarter than they really are. They haven't lived long enough to understand the difference. I suspect the folks who post those opinions here are the same age bracket.

I can't really blame them, I was that same way when I was that age. But it's hard not to let them annoy the hell out of me.

Personally I think TOS has aged quite well. The effects are dated but the show is still a blast to watch for me. One of my favourite TV series ever.

Which raises the question: what are you doing here ?

Fully agree. I enjoy movies from the 20s, for pete's sake.

As it ages I only appreciate it more. TOS at least had more of an emphasis on storyline then SPFX or as I call it "the crutch".

I mean, when don't have a good script, just save the scene by throwing in a lens flare.
